Bright citrusy unfiltered lager, this brew was borne of the brewers’ many trips to Germany. Alpine Spring features a unique blend of lager attributes: the balanced maltiness and hoppiness of a Helles, the smoothness and slightly higher alcohol of a traditional spring bock, and the unfiltered appearance of a Kellerbier. The beer is brewed with Noble Tettnang hops to add a unique, bright orange-citrusy aroma and flavor.

Bottle. A slightly hazy pale gold pour with a fluffy white head. The aroma is floral and citrus. It has a light somewhat creamy body with nice lively carbonation. Flavor is floral and citrus with some spicy hops and a little yeast. A very nice unfiltered lager.

On tap poured into a shaker. Pours hazy golden that clears as it warms and two finger wonderful white head. Medium carbonation, aroma is light citrus. Taste is light citrus and very light crisp grassy/pine finish. This is a really refreshing beer.

12 ounce bottle from the Utah State Store. Pours a somewhat cloudy golden color with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet grains and honey with some citrus. The flavor is similar; oranges, ginger, quite sweet, biscuit, honey. Very drinkable. A bit of lime in the finish. This should replace corona with lime in crap bars, it’s similar but so much better.

Decided to give this a shot, since I love the noble pils - hazy gold with a quickly diminishing head - nose is quite sweet, honey, apple, pear - some light mineral notes underneath, as well as lightly peppery hops - soft carbonation, creamy texture - flavor is very sweet up front, like apples and honey - a moderqt acidity cuts through the middle and lasts through the finish - some chalkiness and a moderately bitter, grassy hop note on the end - a bit of lemon - messy, but not completely unenjoyable.

Bottle. Cloudy, light golden body. Fizzy white head. Aroma of toasted grain, citrus, lemon and canned vegetables. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Light lemon tartness. Medium body, chalky texture, moderate to lively carbonation. Husky grain and citrus taste. Unclean body, not what one thinks of as an alpine spring. No crispness, just notes of lemon tartness. On the other hand, this is more flavorful and most premium lagers. The good news is that the former spring seasonal, Noble Pils, is going to be brewed year round. The bad news is that Alpine Spring will now be on every seasonal tap instead of Noble Pils.

The color, aroma and pour are what really make this beer. The flavor doesnt really match up unfortunately. A nice expected beer from Sam Adams but nothing too special.

Harris Teeter, DC sixer ($8): Pours a hazy orange/yellow color with a white head. Aroma is citrus and bread. Taste is nice and crisp, with a solid, but mellow hop presence. Minimal sweetness, and an excellent balance. This was better than I had hoped, and it makes for a great session.

Bottle. Orange malt and light pine aroma. Hazy golden yellow color with large head. Sweet orange and lightly bitter grapfruit peel flavor. Nice creamy malt finish. Wasn’t too impressed until the malt hit me - really like this one.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with a medium head and some lacing. The aroma is reminiscent of a hefeweizen or berlinerweisse. There are notes of orange and lemon, wheat, and a little coriander. The palate is light and lively. Overall, this is a fair beer, bright and crisp, but nothing special.

Pours a slightly hazy golden straw color with a bone white head that slowly recedes but leaves much lace in its wake. Smells like quite a bit of citrus and earth on top of biscuity malt. Not horribly complex in the aroma. Taste is a mix of biscuit malt again with lots of citrus and earth. Almost tart lemony flavor with a thin malt backbone of biscuit and pilsner? Thin body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and an almost sweet watery mouthfeel. This might make for a good lawnmower beer, but by the time spring rolls around this will be two seasonals ago in the Sam lineup. I’d rather have a Noble Pils really.
