Schramm’s Madeline is our boysenberry mead, made with whole boysenberries and Michigan honey. A cross between European raspberry, common blackberry and American dewberry, the boysenberry has a unique tannic flavor which combines wonderfully with carefully selected premium honey. The resulting mead is thick, jammy and extremely flavorful and pours dark purple with a very smooth, lightly tart finish. This mead is a tribute to our favorite, tiny release to date, Madeline June Schramm Naeger. Ten percent of sales of this mead are donated to the Royal Oak Beaumont NICU, where Madeline spent nearly the first three months of her life. She was beautiful when she was born, but we know she will continue to mature beautifully with age. Deep dark reddish purple. Smells rich, super jammy, loads of berries, sweet. Smooth body, some boozyness, yet surprisingly light. Taste is intense berries, some light of vanilla, and something I can't really place, like plum skins. Complex.

Corked bottle courtesy of Sergey
It's sweet, but with elegance; deep currants flavour, aroma of hop, and boysenberries, wax; strong honey character, some tannins, mild acidity, deep wet forest. The alcohol is present, warming, perfectly blending in. Delicious.

375ml (thx, Kory V.!) shared with Alex at Andrey's. Appearance: deep purple with no head. Aroma: lots of honey and berries, sweet and sour. Taste: along the same lines with quite complex berries and mead character. Overall: very nice.

Bottle pour at Schramm's, pours a deep dark mahogany. Aroma reveals gorgeously intense boysenberries upfront, with the honey taking a back seat - it provides a base more than it exudes aromatics. Flavour is rich and decadent, with intense boysenberries, moderate honey presence, and some treacle. Very sweet but appropriately so. Semi-boozy, dessert-like elegance on the finish. Lovely.
