Fles van het Biermoment. Droppig, boozy, donker fruit. Weinig zoetigheid, vrij droog. Mwah.

Bottle at Billie's Bierkafetaria, thanks Jan for sharing. One year anniversary beer from this popular Dutch craft brewery, a blend of their 'black' creations aged on different whisky barrels, a concept which may have been inspired by De Molen's Cuvée series, and on an international level runs parallel with e.g. The Bruery's Mélanges as well. The end result bears a thickly lacing, yellowish beige, dense and stable head and shows a jet black robe with thin mahogany edges. Rich, deep bouquet of thick caramel sauce and treacle, walnut oil, leather, dried prunes, peanuts, black chocolate, bourbon, vanilla-like wood, brown rum, horse meat, baked banana, cinnamon, madera, candied fig, sweet pipe tobacco, black olives. Sweet onset in a noble, non-sticky way, candied figs, blue grapes, dried blackberries, some thin cherry-ish sourishness and light meaty umami hints; softish carbo, rounded, creamy and thickly oily mouthfeel, quite viscous. Hazelnutty and butterscotch-like, eventually toasty bittersweet malt body, long warming, complex finish with old sherry and soft and elegant tannic wood notes matched with ongoing deep maltiness, some lingering sweetness, spicy hop touches and the expected bourbon-flavoured alcohol (more so than the 'real' whisky really). The regular stout / porter offerings by De Moersleutel often fall a bit short in body, depth and rotundity, but this combination of a number of them manages to tick all the boxes; this is full, thick, luscious and generous, sweet but with this sweetness cleverly balanced by umami, spicy, roasted bitter and bourbon notes. A lovely sipper, certainly the best Moersleutel so far for me - truly a classy celebration of their high ambitions. Would love to revisit this with more aging on it.

Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color, medium sized brown colored head that lasts for a short while. Aroma and flavor are both malts, dark malts, some liquorice, some liquor though not clearly bourbon, a bit alcoholic especially in the aroma, dark fruit in the distance, moderate to medium bitter. Heavy beer, sipper.

Bottle shared. Pitch black pour with a dark tan head. Notes of dark chocolate, peat, whiskey, dark cherries, lactose. Pretty well made stout, as was expected, despite the fact that the bourbon and scotch barrels don’t work too well together.

Pours black, small but stable, bit darker head. Smell is very roasty, barrels and a bit of bourbon, but a mildly unpleasant touch of plastic (ruber ) taste is full, rather bitter, a sharp boozyness. Ashy, roast. Not bad.
