For our third Tripel, we’re returning to using hops from the southern hemisphere, this time using Australian hop Ella, noted for its pronounced floral and juicy fruit character. The indulgently fruity nose evokes peach and apple blossom, pineapple cocktails and tropical fruit sundaes, whilst that crucially smooth and slick Tripel body all but glides across the palate, with just a prickle of gentle spicing from coriander and orange peel to balance the beer’s yeast character.

Bottle at home. Aroma is fruity, citrus, spicy yeasty esters, malt, touch of orange and fruity hops, mildly floral with some tropical notes and a hint of alcohol in the finish. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Wow, this is pretty great. A nicely hopped Tripel with good body and balance, tasty tropical fruity notes from the Ella hops. Delicious example of the style.

330ml bottle. Orangey, depp golden colour with average to huge, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minmally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, bready malty and fruity aroma, notes of apricot, mirabelle, dried fruit, raisin, fig, date. Taste is sweet-ish, slightly bready and biscuity malty with a touch of speculoos, fruity notes of apricot, mirabelle, hints of dried fruit, raisin, date, fig; the alcohol is quite pervasive.

Draught@CBC2016. Ambery orange colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, spicy, some floral and yeasty notes with some mild alcohol as well. Flavour is quite similar, and is on the border to being gluelike sweet as for the alcohol kicking in in the finish.
