Medelijden hoeft men geenszins te verwachten.

Bottle. Bottled 1st of October 2018, recently bought at Willems Grobbendonk. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, vanilla. Taste: Very smooth, roasted malt, coffee notes, vanilla. Over medium to full body, soft carbonation. Boozy hints. Over moderate to medium sweet, moderate to over moderate bitter, going to medium bitter at finish. Long lasting bittersweet finish. On the sweet side for me, but not too sweet. Very nice.

Paper wrapped 0.75 litre bottle (11%): filled on 10 Jun 2017. Shared with the wife at home on 15th Aug 2020. Black bodied, smooth tanned foaming head on top. Aroma and taste held deep roasted malts and coffee traces, some dark chocolate too. Rich and very drinkable.

Pours a bit viscous to deep dark reddish brown beer with a medium, stable tan head. Lots of roast; woodfire, liquorice, slightly ashy, rather sweet alcoholic impression. Roast/burnt, ashes, liquorice, jap , resin - especially retronasal. Long lasting flavour. Quite rich, voluptuous feel, medium to good carbonation, viscous. Min: a bit unimpressive, predictable. And meant for a French-speaking market? Plus: no attempt to beef it up with unnecessary additions - a classical, good roasted stout.

375ml bottle from Beer Palais, Callicannes, watching series 4 of The Man in the High Castle. Pours dark, almost black, good creamy dense tan collar. Aroma of dark malts, distant herb, chocolate, curacao. Palate is smooth, balanced, not too heavy, great balance of chocolate and dark malts, gentle curacao presence, soft roast. Decent.
