Bottle from Yamaoka, 420yen, served in a pint glass with sweet & sour pork. An opaque honeyed amber pour with a thin head. It’s got a nice bready malt sweetness in the nose. The taste has a bit of a fruity tang on a somewhat thin body. It also has some caramel, ash, maybe even a smidge of diacetyl... not one of their better efforts but while it isn’t spot on it isn’t that far off either - needs work.

Bottle from Yamaoka san. Aroma of caramel, earth, chocolate, and hops that are like minerals with a touch of grass and grapefruit. Munich malt character is dominant. Slightly fruity. Deep amber with a thick, fine, off-white head. Rich caramel flavor, malty, with chocolate. A bit of citrus hop flavor, with pretty decent bitterness. Hops are there, and the bitterness is enough, though they really don’t do much in terms of scent or flavor. Malt-driven. decently balanced and drinkable with nice munich malt flavor, though not really all that interesting.
