Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.

Nearing the end, palate overload on the style. Black pour with small beige head. Roasty and boozy, same as the rest. Chocolate, coffee, bourbon.... you know the style

My bomber from Santa Fe says it is from Batch 14, November 2015 with an abv of 10.1%. So there you go, it is my story and I am sticking to it. Into my preferred-for-stouts Buffalo Bayou snifter the pour goes. I see the expected dark, essentially black liquid topped a moderate cocoa colored head. The nose is different, I get chocolate and ribbon candy. The taste is better than the smell. There is chocolate, espresso, a firm malt kick and a tinge of fruit, maybe strawberry of all things. Pretty decent I think, it is an imperial stout, but I have others I much prefer like Ten FIDY or Yeti. Way different.

Batch no. 16, Nov. 2016, alc. 10.6%. A black beer, a head is quite small and light brown. Aroma has richness of malts, roastiness, melassie, caramel, liquorice. Taste has maltyness, liquorice, sweetness of caramel, balanced and quite strong bitterness. Full bodied, smooth palate. Complex, based on huge maltyness, old-fashioned or meant traditional. Very tasteful and powerful.

Pours virtually black from the bottle. The foamy tan slowly fades. Aroma is chocolate, plum, port wine, nail polish. Taste is bittersweet, lots of licorice, cough drop, chocolate. Body is heavy, carbonation is mild. Pretty good. (SWI++)

Cellared Bottle purchased at Systembolaget. Pours pitch black with a beige head that disappears quickly and leaves lacing. Strong liquorice aroma with dark chocolate, roasted malt and molasses. Similar strong, bitter, roasted flavor with loads of liquorice, dark chocolate and a lingering bitter coffee finish. This one has aged surprisingly beautiful.

Bottle, 650 ml, from Beergium. Shared with rest of the crew. Pours black with small light brownish head. Roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, some fruity notes. Low carbonation. Medium bodied, overall seems a bit thin. somehow expected more, not sure if something went wrong.
