DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.

(Draught at Haymarket, Stockholm, 31 Jan 2017) Reddish amber colour with dense, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, toffee, chocolate and orange peel. Malty taste with notes of caramel, toffee, orange peel, chocolate and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Bottle, 355 ml from Beergium, shared with Max and JFK10000. Pours dark golden, small off white head. Low carbonation. Caramel, light fruit, some wood, sweetish, malty. Medium bodied. Nothing special really.

Bottle at a tasting. Well balanced and rouded beer. Subtle yet rich. Soft woodiness, resiny grassy hoppiness, caramelly candyish maltiness. Easy drinking, rather thin, though full of subtle flavours. Good one.

Draught at Haymarket By Scandic hotel, Stockholm, Sweden. Dark clear golden with an off white head. Aroma is pretty meh, faint notes of malt and caramel, slight bread and slight grassy note. Taste is balanced, but that’s it really. Starts with bready notes, slight crackers, dough, grassy dry finish. Light to medium body, medium carbo. Nah, though balanced and drinkable but low on flavours.

Bottle: Deep golden, a bit unclear, smaller and quite stable off-white foamy layer; mild, distinctive english hops in the dryish fruity-malty nose; moderate dry bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, pretty soft; lingering dry hoppy-fruity and bready-malty finish. Archetypal "anglo-saxon" beer, moreish...

12 oz. can, from the variety pack. Pours dark copper, with a big, frothy, beige head. Brown sugar and unsweetened coconut, oak, musty earth, and raisins. Malty, but not that sweet, with a sharp bitterness. Medium body, hard, grainy, and sticky. This is an aggressive and relatively harsh beer, but it grew on me. Quite tasty.

Keg at CBC St Mary Axe. Ruby brown and clear with a decent off-white head. Metallic aroma with some forest floor. Sweet malty taste but ultimately lacking direction. Decent enough brew but too many nods to UK and Belgian influences to be an original recipe.
