DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Spore rozczarowanie. Zwykle komercyjne brytyjskie Bittery potrafia byc bardziej gozkie niz to piwo.

0.355 l bottle from ’EDEKA Preller’ (Breckerfeld), bottled in March 2016. Sweetish-malty, slightly spicy aroma of caramel, grains, some straw and a touch of nuts. Sweetish-malty, slightly grassy-spicy taste of caramel, nuts, some straw and grains, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly grassy finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay, quite quaffable, but not that interesting.

Appearance is amber and quite clear, plenty of fizz, a big fluffy beige head which lasts. Leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma- caramel malt, brown bread, raisin, toasted malt. Taste- nutty, creamy malt, cherry cake, almond, toast, hint of sweetness, smooth mouthfeel, fairly long finish with bitter malts. Tasty ale.

American take on a traditional English ale style, with medium thick, egg-white, lightly lacing, moussy, irregular head eventually reduced to a wafer thin rim and nothing else, and clear, beautifully deep warm amber robe. Pleasant aroma of freshly toasted bread, barbecued chicken, smoked paprika, tomato concentrate, green peppercorns, dried red berries, vague vanilla, toasted peanuts, caramelized sugar, mustard seed, radish. Clean, rounded fruity onset, redcurrant, apple and dried orange peel, softish carbonation, smooth and lightly oily, very supple body; notably nutty malt middle with a bitterish toasted edge, reinforced by mild wood tannins, drying the back along with floral, peppery and leafy Old World hop bitterness, bit tonic water-like in the very end, perfectly balancing out the restrained dried fruit and nutty sweetishness. Very elegant, balanced, tasty beer, indeed resembling a bottled English bitter of the ’higher’ ESB class, but adding a toasted oak dryness which blends in very well. Recommended, like all of Firestone Walker’s beers.

7 week old can from Mixed 12 into a tulip. A: Deep crystal clear copper tea color with 1" of tight beige head, quickly falling to a film. Patchy sheets of lace. S: Malty scent of fallen leaves and earth. T: Much like the smell, earthy, leafy hop taste. Lightly sweet maltiness. A hint of orange is most welcome cutting and lingering through the toffee and tea. M: Light body and stiff carbonation despite a bit of sweetness. Finish is a little sticky though. O: Can’t find much fault although nothing really stands out. A nice, light easy drinking autumn beer imo.

Can. A- Subtle caramel, malty, slightly metallic. A- Dark copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Sweet caramel, malty, subtle oak, mild vanilla. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Seeing the name I thought this was going to be a Pale Ale. Turned out to be an ESB and a pretty decent one at that. Nothing really stood out about it but it was easy to drink and not skunky or boring.

355ml can. Pours a clear dark amber with a medium, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, bread and toasted oak. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, dried fruit, vanilla and toasted oak with a slightly bitter grass finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

355ml bottle from somewhere. Pours deep amber, off-white head. Aroma is caramel, light hop. Taste is smooth caramel heading into fruity ESB territory. Good vibrant flavoursome taste with a hint of American finesse.
