Slutfest 2013: Smells of clay, shitty. Clear tea colored, medium yellow head. Clay and grass flavor, still shitty. Disappointing. Some of these Barrel series are pretty good, but not this one.

Bomber shared by Butters at Slutfest 4. Pours a clear red-brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, banana, nutty notes, bitter hops. The taste is bitter hops, nutty notes, mild roast. Medium bodied. Meh.

Drought. Dark brown color with small beige foamy head, barnyard aromas, very smooth coffee taste, low carbonation, slightly bland finish. Nice and smooth stout.

Aroma: The nose is roasted malts, some toast, earthy, and a bit of unsweetened coffee
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a small, sheeting tan colored head and plenty of lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same as the nose with a bit more of a hop bite to the finish
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a smooth Pale Ale feel, and some dryness on the finish
Overall Impression: Solid stuff, there's something enjoyable about it, but also something muddled. The description of it being part APA and part Stout makes sense, even if the concept doesn't totally make sense.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clearish brown with a fine, creamy head. Rich, roasty malt nose. Light sweet flavor, dark toast, earth. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Light bitter, earthy finish, dirt, some cocoa, toast. Not bad.

Pours a clear dark brown color with with a huge fluffy off white head that seems to last forever. Smells lightly roasty with caramel, brown sugar, and an earthy mineral aroma. The flavor mimics the aroma quite well. Earthy, sulfur, dark sugar, chocolate, hints of fruit and a bit of roast. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. I can’t figure this one out, is it a weak stout, a roasty English pale ale? It does neither very well. Mediocre beer at best.

22 oz. bottle at local Market Basket. Pours just like a typical stout. Back liquid, thin ring of white head. Nose is roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is a bit strange. I guess the description from the brewer is pretty right. The body and texture remind a person of a pale ale but the roasted malts and chocolate is slightly off balance. What does this brew want to be? I could take it or leave it. I think I will leave it next time.

Pours deep amber into an English pint. Off-white micro head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Caramel, chocolate and mild smoke aromas. Medium bodied upfront with dark caramel turning dry in the lasting charred chocolate finish.
