An annual limited-edition brew, Fuller's Vintage Ale is the most special beer to leave our Griffin Brewery each year. Every Vintage Ale recipe is unique from the last - yet all have to mature, with the flavours developing over time.
For the Vintage Ale 2019, we have traveled 12,000 miles for inspiration, as West London meets South Island New Zealand. Wai-Iti hop brings mandarin, lemon, and lime to the fore, whilst Crystal malt - grown on the New Zealand's Canterbury Plains - adds notes of toasted bread and honey. Looking a little closer to home, our famous Fuller's yeast gives the beer its familiar orange marmalade backbone.

0.5 l bottle from 'Craftbeer-Shop.com', best before December 2029. Clear, ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite fruity, gently resiny aroma of marmelade, molasses, raisins, melon and some pine. Quite sweet, malty, gently fruity and moderately resiny taste of molasses, raisins, some marmelade, a touch of pine and hints of orange, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, slightly warming finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. I think this is the first Vintage Ale I tried with less than a year of age on it (of about ten). The best ones were between two and three years with more complexity than this one but without the oxidization of older ones. This one might be more interesting as it is now with the Wai-iti hops still detectable, but I wouldn't mind trying it after three years as well.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear copper colour with a short-lived fizzy off white head. The aroma is sweet malt, toffee caramel, red berry fruits, woody hops. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, rich, malt, fruity, warm boozy alcohol, light floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Another great Vintage Ale.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber-copper with a medium, creamy, long lasting, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of toasted bready malt, caramel, toffee, date, prune and orange peel. Sweet flavour of toasted caramel malt, toffee, nuts, prune, date, raisin, honey, orange, lemon and floral hops in a dry, mild bitter, warming booze finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. A little boozy heat in the finish, but aging will mellow that out and truly make this an exceptional beer.

500ml bottle, No 052619, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Off-white, steady head leaving crocheted lacing on the glass. Bright and deep copper coloured body. Very nice appearance, indeed. Promising aromas of smooth caramel and dried fruits. Well blended taste of ripe lemon, nutty caramel, dates and raisin. Lingering bittersweet tail. Well bodied. Lovely sipper, enjoyed for more than an hour. (Tromsø 21.05.2020).
