An annual limited-edition brew, Fuller's Vintage Ale is the most special beer to leave our Griffin Brewery each year. Every Vintage Ale recipe is unique from the last - yet all have to mature, with the flavours developing over time.

For the Vintage Ale 2019, we have traveled 12,000 miles for inspiration, as West London meets South Island New Zealand. Wai-Iti hop brings mandarin, lemon, and lime to the fore, whilst Crystal malt - grown on the New Zealand's Canterbury Plains - adds notes of toasted bread and honey. Looking a little closer to home, our famous Fuller's yeast gives the beer its familiar orange marmalade backbone.

0.5l bottle. Dark ruby body with a long lasting beige head. It starts with a bold molasses-like character then dried fruits arrive (raisins, prunes). A strong nutmeg-like spicyness can be felt too with a noticable booze presence and some floral hops. Even a hint of cocoa is there. It has a touch of solvent to it, but it's not disturbing. Still a nice beer.

Bottle from Waitrose Ashford and drunk at home a couple of years later. Russet red brown darkish beer thin head. got this wrong I was going to have this one first then the 2017. but opened wrong bottle and wondered why the beer had some age Well it was 4 years old. this is fresher. some rich malt. some good white pepper aroma. I would say 2 years age is good for this beer. toffee rich red fruits. some vanilla some white pepper I liked this a lot. aroma isn't the best but the flavour has some great plum flavour and then a balancing pepper dry finish. delicious. sweet strawberry and plum jam aroma. the flavour is sublime. Victoria plum flavour then a spritzy white pepper finish. Great balance. loved it. wish I could spread it on some white toasted bread. long finish of white plum sweet jam. lovely. properly good. it's like eating good Victoria plum jam. exceptional.

Bottle #040265: Almost clear, deep ruby-amber coloured, medium-sized stable creamy off-white head, solid and complex sweet-bitter aroma of toasted malt and caramel, supported by dried fruits and nutty traces, presumably illusions of vanilla and wood; solid sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; lingering sweet fruity-malty-toasty finish with warming vinous traces, getting drier and hoppier towards the aftertaste. A well balanced, delicious night-cap...

Bottle from the brewery shop. It pours deep red - brown with a thick beige head. The aroma is rich and woody, toothy, earthy, leather, nutty, cacao nibs, twist of citrus, brown bread with jam, figgy pudding, raisin bread, spice, dried cranberry and toasted brown sugars. The taste is dry, some decent bitterness, bitter - sweet character, nutty, rich oak, tobacco, brown bread marmalade sandwiches, toasty, fig jam, raisins, fruit cake, varnished oak, spice, toothy action, cacao nibs, touch of alcohol warmth and a twist of citrus. Lower end of full body and moderate carbonation. Good depth and nice balance. An enjoyable vintage.

One for the malt heads! Blackberry. Blackcurrants. Thick coated lacing. Yeast for some reason reminds me of Chico. Bread and butter pudding In a glass. Nutty and complex. Sheer astounding brilliance. Copper like the original IPA. Unbelievably good beer.
