Barrel & Bean starts its life as our Tripel—a Belgian-style golden ale. We age that beer in bourbon barrels for just shy of two months, before blending it with cold-brewed coffee from Speckled Ax, a Maine coffee roaster. The sun-dried Ethiopian beans in the coffee are known for their stone fruit and dark berry flavors. The finished beer features rich notes of caramel, bourbon, and coffee.

Bottle - hazy gold - lovely carbonation and a frothy head - creamy texture - vanilla, Barrel, dough, moderate coffee - spicy finish and some caramel sweetness throughout - mild bourbon heat in the finish - it’s good, but not great.

$4.65 bottle, WW. Pours hazy gold with a small off-white head. Aroma is white grape, coffee, a bit of wood... not getting a bourbon aroma. Flavor is coffee, wood, bourbon, some sort of buried fruit, a bit of ash. Interesting. Enjoyable.

Pour is a hazy blonde with a large white head. Aroma is a decent cold brewed coffee but nothing from the base beer of barrel came out. Flavor is more of a subtle bourbon barrel with some lingering coffee underneath. Decent coffee in the aroma and a decent barrel in the flavor, not much of a tripel anywhere. Alcohol is hidden well making this a bit dangerous to drink.

Draft taster pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is cloudy, light brown with no sparkle, no real head to speak of. Aroma is pleasant bourbon, bit of coffee, fruity--nice aroma! Taste is strong coffee and bourbon. Those are the two main flavors, which work well together. A little bit of banana or clove? Mild yeast. Palate is medium bodied with smooth, thick texture, average carbonation and somewhat dry finish as taste. Overall, very tasty with really strong, complementary flavors.

Bottle from the brewery, bottled on 02/07/18. Now with cold-brewed coffee from Speckled Ax. Slightly unfiltered (getting hazy in the last pours), golden-orange colour with a light beige frothy head, decent retention and lots of thick creamy lacing. The smell of coffee is nicely blended with the warmth of the alcohol, caramel malts and bourbon notes. The taste has less coffee, but the alcohol warms up with the bourbon showing more. Not as sweet on the tongue, which makes this one a nice warming winter Tripel - which is just what I need today. Well done !

On tap at Uno's Chicago Grill in Hamilton, NJ. Amber gold pour. Small creamy beige head. Subtle toasted malt nose hints at oak and coffee. First sip is silky smooth with flavor notes of sweet malt, coffee and mild bitter lemon. The oak notes are present, but subtle. Deliciously creamy and it gets better as it warms. Outstanding!

Hazy copper with a white head. Citrus and coffee roasted notes together. Light booze. Interesting but not really doing it for me.
