On tap at the brewery. Pours black with medium beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is roast and pine. Slick body, cocoa, roast, dark fruit, light bitterness, very good.

Draught at the brewery, 9/21/17.
Dark ebony-to-dark mahogany/cola. Probably clear, though undetermined. Dark beige head atop shows moderate-to-strong retention.
Basic coffee bean notes aren't overly fruity, but show nuttiness and light chocolate, as well. Some light caramel, bit of acid and a touch more vinousness coalesce on the finish. Quite "dry" and I'm not sure from the nose if that's because it's just that attenuated, or if it's due to too much specialty malt. Clean though, with no alcohol noted.
In the mouth it's extremely dry, bordering over-attenuated and not showing enough base malt suppleness. Amply carbonated, fairly engaging, with clean, dark malt flavors growing a bit "beany" as raisin, baker's chocolate and light coffee congregate.

Chalumeaux with the 16 oz. can share. Much thanks T.J! Light clear brown in color, thin white head. Aroma is weak chocolate, dark malt, grains. Normally Night Shift does well with German beer styles. Overall, it feels a but too light overall. Light bodied palate, carbonation is normal. Ummm. Not toasty, not real chocolatey, really doesn't remind me of a Schwarzbier at all.

Keg at the taproom. Pours deep brown with a frothy, light khaki head. The nose holds well toasted brown bread, leathery berries. Light sweet flavour with more toasted brown bread, grains, a little aged coffee. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, with more toasted brown bread and grains, old leathery berries. Not bad.
