Tap at Restauration 1900 in the Prenzlaur District of Berlin. Pours good with a white head. Aroma is more bready than grassy. Seems a bit metallic. It is grassy, but not very. Ok pils.

International Green Week, Berlin 2012: this year Hall 22a is shared by Berlin and the state of Schleswig-Holstein, by the time I’ve got here I’m ready for another beer and some lunch. I notice some seats with a table and lead my little group to a well earned rest. My thick Bockwurst and Lentil soup went down very nicely with the Pilsner. Potsdamer Rex Pils is well known to me and I’ve had it many times over the years: never got round to reviewing it for some reason, rectified now though. The regular Pilsner look, golden, clear and bright: this one came in a 0.4 litre handled glass with an overflowing foam head of snowy white bubbles. The smell is again your typical Pilsner non-show, some hop esters and grainy hints, but nothing much at all: gets my usual score of 3 for a non-smelling Lager/Pils/Hell. The taste is hop dry, yet fairly sweet in the initial sip; becoming more bitter as the mouth dries (pretty quickly once the liquid has left the mouth). Medium body strength for a Pilsner, good carbonisation and ‘spritzy’ on the tongue: had a lot, lot worse on my travels and I’ll have no qualms about having another when in this part of the world.
