Apr ’15. On tap at the restaurant/brewpub. It poured hazy darker brown body with medium sized latte head. Caramel, sugar, a simple toasted malt aroma. A bit dusty, too. Flavor was lightly sweet with touch of weird vinous sourness but it did not ruin the beer. Smooth and cloying but not particularly full in body. Vague hop bitterness felt in the finish, but still toasted malt absolutely dominated all the way through. Sweet, but not exaggerated, just enough for the style. Not as brilliant as their helles, but still a fine brewpub dunkel.

Vom Faß in der Schankhalle Pfefferberg, Berlin. - Tiefes Kupferrot, trüb; reichlich Schaum. - Nase hefig (aber in noch erträglichem Maß), mildes Röstmalz, frisch fruchtige Noten (dunkle Beeren). - Antrunk schön dunkelmalzig, mild röstig und herb fruchtig: geröstete Nüsse, Mokka, Orangenschale. Mild rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang beträchtliche orangenfruchtige Hopfenherbe, auch grasig. Etwas schroff bitterer Nachtrunk. - Intensiv fruchtig-herb gehopftes Dunkel, nicht so malzsüßlich-dünn wie viele, aber noch etwas unharmonisch und unreif.

Malty, slightly spicy taste with notes of toasty malt, crisp-bread, orange peel and a balanced spicy bitterness. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
