“There’s a lot going on in this beer with two yeast strains, copious amounts of wheat malt, and a big focus on ‘C’ hops to deliver a citrus explosion,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Chuck Silva. “In fact we lined up more than a dozen hop varieties in the brewery to select three hops with the biggest citrus character to dry hop the beer.

“This golden beer pours with beautiful, frothy white beer foam that lasts due to bottle conditioning. Gently rousing the yeast that settles in the bottle will result in a fuller texture and a more cloudy white appearance. The citrus aromas that jump from the glass are largely tangerine up front with other types of citrus notes that mingle with the Belgian yeast esters. Hop flavors of bitter orange zest dominate the brew and linger to the finish with a nice play of American and Belgian yeast combo.”

A beer with so many components can be held together with a “Linchpin”. The official “Linchpin” of this beer is the skillful collaboration between the two breweries to create a unique hop-forward brew. Linchpins are symbolic: two simple shapes that combine to strengthen a bond amongst many different pieces.

Odd, tasty hoppy beast, herbal and yeasty and citric, with a prolonged hoppy finish that oozes resinous evil. The nose is huge, waves of herbal citric hops overlapping a semisweet yeasty Belgian slant. Tastes very similar, with what you want from an IPA and a wheat beer putting in an appearance before the IBUs take over. Not the best example of the style, but a nice bottle nonetheless.

Bottle @ home. Somewhat hazy/cloudy, golden appearance with a big, a touch off-white head that looks quite nice. Quite prickly spicy, somewhat resiny, citrusy/tangerine, spicy wheat malty aroma that is quite appetizing. Spicy wheat malty, peppery yeasty, spicy hoppy, piney, citrusy/orange flavor with a spicy finish. Spicy hoppy, somewhat piney/herbal aftertaste. This was quite nice. Spiciness comes from multiple ingredients along with a delicious citrusy element and some pine. Not your typical IPA but I just love what’s going on here.

On draught at The Pharmacy in Nashville. The beer pours a hazy bright yellow color with a medium white head that diminishes slowly to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, yeast and spices. Medium body with flavors of herbal hops, grapefruit, yeast and wheat. The finish is fruity with a peppery yeast aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Well, I tried a "white IPA" from a local brewery today that tasted pretty atrocious, so I’m eager to try this one from a couple of breweries that actually know how to make an IPA, and who probably know that making a white IPA does not mean throwing way too many hops into a witbier.

Bomber from Beer Run. About 60% of the initial pour is head. What beer is there is a hazy lemon yellow. The head is white and frothy. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted bready notes and tons of citrus including orange and grapefruit, as well as some stone fruits. The taste is strong citrus hops, bitter citrus and bready malts. Medium bodied. Quite nice.

Pours murky deep gold with dirty off white head. The aroma is lively with grapefruit and lemon mixing with mildly malty sweetness. The taste is just as lively and even more crisp and yummy with lemon, lime and grapefruit notes that are partially tempered with some sweet malts. In the background are nuances of yeast aiding to the sessionableness of the experience. Nice fresh crisp stuff that will go great in the heat this summer.

Bomber from the Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dishwater orange gold with a 4 finger creamy white head. Primary aroma through the froth is yeast/spice. Sort of golden Belgian ale aroma. Near full bodied. There’s a lot of citrus hop, but if that’s taken out of the equation this starts earthy like a saison, but with a bit too much yeast/spice, and then that 50% NW hop aspect has to be dealt with. This is one really good beer. Yeast/spice into the finish, with a lot of hop riding along. Malt, yeah there’s a substantial backbone, but this is all about spice and hop. Brilliant effing ale.

Draught Good dense snowwhite head over hazy yellow beer. USA hops, resing, pine notes. More resiny hops in the taste, a little bit of wheat, and a bitter finish with thyme notes. Spritzy, slick, rather light beer. Seen the enormous amount of herbs used, impressive balance.
