“There’s a lot going on in this beer with two yeast strains, copious amounts of wheat malt, and a big focus on ‘C’ hops to deliver a citrus explosion,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Chuck Silva. “In fact we lined up more than a dozen hop varieties in the brewery to select three hops with the biggest citrus character to dry hop the beer.

“This golden beer pours with beautiful, frothy white beer foam that lasts due to bottle conditioning. Gently rousing the yeast that settles in the bottle will result in a fuller texture and a more cloudy white appearance. The citrus aromas that jump from the glass are largely tangerine up front with other types of citrus notes that mingle with the Belgian yeast esters. Hop flavors of bitter orange zest dominate the brew and linger to the finish with a nice play of American and Belgian yeast combo.”

A beer with so many components can be held together with a “Linchpin”. The official “Linchpin” of this beer is the skillful collaboration between the two breweries to create a unique hop-forward brew. Linchpins are symbolic: two simple shapes that combine to strengthen a bond amongst many different pieces.

A hazed golden ipa with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light dank notes, faint oxydation, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, loads of citrus, pine needles, light oxidation, still solid after 9 years.

Bottle at home from Tanakaya. Pale blond colour, big white head. Aroma is lemon and grassy hops, wheat, bit of cream. Taste has lots of bitterness not as much wheat as the aroma. Once again lemon and a touch of cream. Further down the bitterness fades and the wheat comes through a bit more. Quite boozy, but quite nice.

Draft (the week it came out, massive backlog). Pours with a hazed golden-yellow hued body with a large white head. Aromas are medium phenolic, estery, stone fruit, straw and hay. Flavors are grassy, bready, noble like hops, citrus, zesty, marmalade, bready, wheat, lightly earthy. Phenolic. Medium bodied, medium-medium high carbonation. Dry.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow with a large white head that slowly dissipates with decent lacing. Aroma is citric, coriander, yeast. Taste is about the same plus tangerine. Lightly sweet, medium bitter with a bitter finish that is a mix of hoppiness and orange peel.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Creamy wheaty nose, sweet orange, honey, vanilla. Deep golden, clear, tall creamy head. Fruity, creamy flavor, nice orange and citrus, good hoppy finish. Very bitter. Light spiciness from the Belgian yeast. Very nice, creamy, tasty. Like it.

Bomber. Murky deep yellow body, gold highlights. Big, frothy white head, lasting. Aroma of citrus, grass, grapefruit, toasted grain, lemon. Notes of resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The taste starts with lemon, citrus but turns bitter grapefruit and resin in the finish. Bitterness lingers well into the finish. Some notes of a wit beer, but more notes of an IPA, especially resin. Different. Fairly clean. Will take this over IPAs that are heavy on raw hop leaf flavor.

The pour is slightly hazy yellow with a tall, long lasting white head. The aroma is musty citrus fruit. Some clove. The flavor is bitter, tart with some spicy dryness that comes in at the finish. I think I like white IPAs better than black ones.

Bottle shared at Sander’s place in NYC during an evening of heavy drinking. Pours lightly hazy gold with a big, foamy head. Sugary citrus nose with some lemon and melon highlights. medium sweet flavor with pale malts, white sugar. Medium to full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Well and hoppy on the finish, with lots of dry citrus, some white bread, mild yeast, faint anise, big sweetness. Very well balanced. I like it.

Hazy gold, with a soapy, lasting head - nose is bursting with fresh citrus notes, semi-sweet and lightly tangy wheat, light esters - soft texture - flavor is semi-sweet at first, with quite a bit of tropical fruit (mango, papaya) - dries out through the middle, as the zesty, peppery, citric hops take hold of the palate - finishes with moderate floral notes, light esters and lingering hop spiciness - a solid beer - happy IPA day!
