Bottle. Much better than the last one. Dark and malty, chocolate, ovaltine, quite sweet, cocoa powder, little touch of spice, but more fruity than spicy. Chocolate maltiness dominates though. Feels maybe a bit more like a sweet roasty stout. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a medium beige head. A nice light toasted malt nose. Rich, cola, some light roast, vanilla. Very smooth. Solid beer.

Bottle. A- Chocolate, brownie batter, subtle dark fruits. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Brownie batter, chocolate, slightly roasty, some vanilla. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- More of a sweet stout than a brown ale I’d say, or maybe a hybrid of the two. Lots of brownie batter taste and aroma going on. Actually quite delightful. Wish I’d have grabbed some more Kamakura beers. Lots of flavor.

Bottle shared with friends in Kanagawa in 2013. Deep brown almost black with 2 fingers of foam. Chocolate, toffee and some dark fruit on the nose. Slightly sweet, but rich and full flavored and not cloying. More chocolate cocoa powder as it warms. Feels halfway between a brown and a stout. Good stuff.

330ml bottle [as ’Kamakura Flower’]. [Tanja & Verena, thank you very much for "social/sociological" engagement!]. Clear brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Malty aroma with a cautious nuttily touch, similarly cautious hoppy overtones with a lemon touch, spicy hints of herbs. Taste is dry, dark malty, a nuttily touch, minimal tartness, slightly herbal hoppy overtones, very cautious hints of lemon with cola-like acerbity. Not bad, but lacks intensity.

Kamakura Brown Ale 5.5% Bottle picked up at a liquor shop near the daibutsu in Kamakura. Served in a flute type glass. Similar dark brown almost black pour as the Kijou Brown but this is somewhat clearer & cleaner looking. Thin head of light beige foam that leaves minimal lacing behind. The aroma is malts, sweet caramel, fruits(persimmons?) & cinnamon. Light to medium body with a zesty carbonation. This is a tasty beer, fruity & spicy vanilla & cinnamon/cloves kicking around when served straight from the fridge. From a half-pint glass it had a much maltier nose and came off as more of a straight up brown ale. Decent malty nutty flavors. I liked this equally as the Kijou Brown though that is a more complex beer this is just a good example of the style. My wife preferred the Kijou Brown.

Bottle from the liquor store by Kamakura station. Chocolate malt aroma, dried plums, some berries, vanilla, quite rich and nice. Almost black, with orange and a solid, long-lasting head. Rich malt, slight coffee-like roasting, dark chocolate, a bit of dried fruit, cola, cream. Rich and tasty. Nice body as well. Sweet, but good bitter finish balances. Medium body. The best of their beers by far. Good stuff.

Bottled. Nut brown, rich firm head. Floral nose with bubblegum and alcohol. Mildly roasty with medium body. Chocolate lies underneath warming layers of liqueur. Mild chocolate sauce finish.

Pours a nice dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is light roasted coffee, sweet malt, and some molasses. Body is nice with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is roasted, malty, and sorta sweet. The finish is very lightly bitter and fleeting. A solid brown ale.
