330 ml. bottle @ home. No BBF. Hazy orange, smaller white head. Nose is leathery smoke, light Tarry Souchong, smoked malt, smoked wood, huge leather, light pine way in the back. Taste is mildly bitter plastic, smoked oily pine mixed with caramel sweetness, light bark, pine, faintly floral, smoked wood, bitter plastic, loose tobacco,… Oily, rather milky, lightly dry body, some plastic. The plastic note dominates too much, it isn’t perfect for sure but it is interesting & enjoyable. With an altered recipe it could really shine. So far I am liking this brewery.

Many thanks to Skinnyviking for a 330ml bottle. Shared with Finn. Aftershave head, pearl white. Solid lacework to the glassware, Bright golden body, unclear last pour. Mixed aroma of smoked malts and pine. Smoked and brown malty flavours joined by pine and with hints of dried fruits towards the finish. Well bodied. Appreciated (Tromsø 11.02.2015).

Flaske 330ml spandert av Rune. Delt med ham på Nerstranda 11 Feb 15. Gyldenbrun. Høyt luftig skum. Tynn teppelacing. Aroma av røyk & frukt. Smaken svakt fruktig med en gjennomgående røyksmak. Velbalansert. Veldig uklar siste kvelling.

0,33 l bottle from Danny’s Drankshop, Roermond, NL, bottled on 28/1/2014. Clear, light amber with a thick, foamy, slowly diminishing, white to tan head. Many dotted lacings on the glass. Huge aroma dominated by smoked bacon and campfire with a floral, citrussy hop aroma of lime and orange as well as notes of chocolate and licorice. Lovely taste of smoked bacon with some citrus, lime and orange in the background. Quite long-lasting, medium bitter finish. Medium body, creamy and sparkling mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Really good beer: attractive and tasty. Very good idea to combine smoked malts with an IPA-hop profile. This is a request to Schlenkerla to create their own IPA!

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy amber colour with average to huge, frothy, superby lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Smoky, woody aroma, hints of oak ashes, ham etc., caramel malty background, cautious hints of citrusy hop. Taste is initially smoky with identical flavours, in the middle part a touch of TCP comes in, some improper hop interference as well, later again more harmonious on moderately sweet caramel malty basis, citrusy hoppy finish. Really nice composition, smoky notes seem to extenuate with time, minimally bothersome TCP touch in the middle part. Excellent!

Bottle from Bierkonig, Amsterdam, Netherlands, consumed at home Thursday 9th October 2014. Pours hazy, slightly glowing amber with large sticky white head. Light wafts of woodsmoke, its a nice smokiness, certainly not overdone and it works quite well with this IPA which in turn is also not a huge beasty hoppy affair. Soft carbonation and a waxy mouthfeel, hoppy burps. Fruitiness would be more tropical but the smokiness blunts it a little, sort of like barbecued soft fruits. Bitterness is restrained, good. Hazy orange with nice white head. Lots of fruits like grapefruit and passion fruit. Light sour grains and through everything a light touch of smoke and ash. Tart finish with some lingering bitterness. Ok beer though the smoke doesn't work too well with the tart fruits.

23/VII/14 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - BB: n/a, brewed: 4/IX/13 (2014-835)
Little hazy dark orange beer, huge creamy off-white to yellowish head, very stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: smoky, very floral, soapy, shower gel, bit sweet. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very sour, unpleasant, very smoky, unbalanced, not much else going on here. Aftertaste: bitter, some citrus, very smoky, sour touch, not convinced by this "concept brew", I prefer much more the Emelisse version of it. (Emelisse Smoked Rye IPA)
