Evenings trying to forget the crushing mediocrity of one’s life are typically the main driver to late-night breakfast plates at unforgivingly overlit diners stacked with industrialized, frozen-dumped-in-a-fryer “food.” An interlude between sophomoric late-night antics, questionable decisions and inevitable morning regret. That’s not how I play it. For those who know how to grab life by the horns*, however, this bottle pairs even better with accomplishment, life lived out loud, and well-timed moves that often appear as luck to those not paying attention. A specifically designed midnight brunch feast with like-minded folks who not only have their wits about them but actually have wits, and an artfully prepared feast sets the more appropriate stage for this beer. The bottle is worth a special occasion. Create yours to accompany it.
*Touch mine, though, and I'll provide you with the deepest possible understanding of the word "regret."

Bottle at Antenna America. Nice maple aroma. Very nice taste, maple sweetness, light tartness. Lightly boozy. Only a hint of the bourbon. Sticky.

Date on the bottle says 2016. Thick, gooey, chewy malt bomb, loads of caramel, toffee, date, bourbon, and maple laced with chocolate and black cherry, finished off by a lingering woody bitterness and a noticeable alcohol bite. Maple comes on a bit too strong, adding a layer of heavy sweetness to the back end verging on cloy. Bourbon and Double Bastard play nicely together, but the maple proves three's a crowd. A good pint, but clunky and heavy-handed.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Intense malty-alcoholic aroma. Starts strong, alcoholic, woody, light caramel hints, some notes of cookies, bitter syrup. Finish dry malty and warming-alcoholic. Nice!

Cellared bottle from Beer:30. Merry Christmas to me! Big dark Amber body some mahogany tones very small skin of fine head. Aroma is woody and malty, some of the booze coming through, a little bit of the maple syrup. Taste is more of the same, comes on quite strong, a little bit boozy, sweet and makty but a really nice blend. A year and a half worth of cellaring seems to have done this beer pretty well. Worth the wait.
