This Intergalactical Imperial lager was brewed by Ben (Bridge Road Brewers, 50 Ford Street, Beechworth VIC 3747, Australia) & Urbain @ Struise, as a superb collaborative effort between both breweries and Simply Hops (Hop Pocket Lane, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge, Kent, TN12 6DQ, UK). While Ben shared his Australian Lager brewing techniques, Simply Hops procured us with Fresh Galaxy hop flowers.
Only 4 ingredients were used, Vleteren water, German pilsner malt, Australian Galaxy Hops and Weihenstephan yeast. This lager not only bottom fermented, but also matured on its own bed of C02 for six months.

Tap at the Bishops Arms (Gustav Adolfs Torg) Malmo. Poured a clear light amber with a huge frothy white head. The aroma is citrus malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth malt hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A super beer considering the ABV. Lots of flavour and the alcohol isn’t even starting to dominate.

Draft @ BAB’14. Put this beer in a can.

Draught @ The rover. Pours tiny hazy golden with a big frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of sticky lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is malty, earth and herbal with toffee, caramel, butterscotch, moist soil, moist grass, persimmon, overripe tropical fruits, lemon zest and orange zest. Taste is sweet, bitter and earthy with toffee, caramel, corn syrup, butterscotch hard candy, overripe tropical fruits, moist grass, overripe apples, overripe pears, wood, moist soil and alcohol. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet, bitter astringent, round, soft and medium to full bodied. finish is sweet and bitter with toffee, moist grass, moist soil, wood, overripe tropical fruits, grapefruit rinds, orange peal and persimmon. Well made but not my cup of tea. --- Beer merged from original tick of Imperialist on 27 Jan 2014 at 01:27 - Score: 7

THX! Draft sample @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske. Quite a pricy affair but making a proper lager at this ABV is a pricy affair. Like most Struise beers these days this one is more than a bit more expensive than most beers on the market. Pours nicely hazy golden, always a pleasure to see a beer of this style in its natural hazy appearance. Not too much off-white head crowning the beer. Smell definitely beats the taste for me. Incredibly with lots of hops going on, Galaxy goodness here. Lots of fruits, round hops, oranges, citrus, touch mango & passion fruit, lovely, rich & full. Taste introduces an unexpected barnyard, touch musty note to the whole that runs through it all. Still lots of the previously mentioned fruits but now mixed with bitter grass, touch white pepper. Would have personally preferred t he previously mentioned fruity hops to be more overt in the taste as opposed to barnyard & bitter grass but this is quite solid still. Body is substantial with a medium feel to it, getting a yeasty touch here. Pretty nice IPL, not the best I have had here, does beat the previous pilsner Havick I remember having by them, that one is for sure. Lovely but too much cost & probably effect for regular pils drinking. Now I am curious what about this with lower ABV & noble hops?

21/XII/13 - on tap @ Struise Schooltje (Oostvleteren) - BB: n/a (2013-1159) Thanks to Cis for sharing the beer!

Clear light blond beer, big creamy white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of passion fruits, mango, sweet ripe exotic fruits, very pleasant, little metallic, pineapple. Wow, the aromatic combination of galaxy hops and Weihenstephan yeast is amazing! MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity start, pineapple, mango, bit sweet, passion fruit, nice bitterness. Aftertaste: grassy, bitter, still lots of fruity flavours coming through, peaches, dry hoppy ending, little fruity as well. Man, sometimes simplicity prevails! One type of malts, a single hop, one yeast strain, one f#cking amazing beer!
