Cask at The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon Nov 2008. Pours light amber with a slim tight white creamy head. Some peach and apricot on the nose, light fruitiness in the mouth with an edgey but not harsh bitterness running through it. Light caramel also shows at the end, its nice but served a little too warm.

[cask handpull at Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Amber, slight head, no carbonation. Big initial hit of flavour; malt, herbs and a syrup-y mouthfeel. Follows through into a dusky bitterness with a surprising tingle of spicy hops on the tongue, and a slightly dry palatte. Could perhaps do with a little more bitterness to cut through the early syrup, but I rather enjoyed this. Firestone Walker must be a good brewer indeed to shake a decent drop of beer like this out of Marstons - it’s the first one I’ve ever enjoyed from that brewery. c6

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Amber with a thin white head; orange aroma; sweet and fruity with orange and pineapple and some spice to the finish. Rather disappointing.
