Swedish: Cacao-Porter Criollo tillverkas med porter som bas och smaksätts med bitar av kakao från Malmö Chokladfabrik. Criollo är en kakaosort med runda och lätt färgade bönor. I stället för chokladsötma och vanilj, framhävs kakao-smaken i criollo-bönan och maltigheten i portern. Malmö Brygghus Cacao-porter Criollo för ihop dessa två njutningar.

Bottle (I think) at Ölstugan 1892 Tullen Andra Långgatan, Göteborg, 23/03/14. Black with a moderate tan covering that retains. Nose is light roast, vanilla, spice, dark toffee fudge, cacao liqeur notes, dark berry fruit. Taste comprises cacao nibs, rich chocolate fudge, vanilla, sweet pangs, dark malts, dark toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough if a little sweet in place, but does what it says on the tin well!

Tap @ Hamnmästaren, Malmö. Black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, heavy cocoa and toffee. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and roasted moderate bitter finish. Good in small quantities. 070214

Draft @ the source in Malmö, sampler tray. Brune foncée, col café au lait. Arôme de poudre de cacao, grains et biscuité, cacao est assez profond et domine le bouquet de cette porter. Palais est agréablement bien chocolaté, poudre de cacao avec un malt choco dark, léger grillé, café moyen. Au final, l’effet cacao s’estompe et devient par moment un peu encombrant voire de trop. Le côté houblonné reste discret et contribue peu au profil général.

A new rating as this is so much better than the last one I had and I’m told the recipe has changed. Tap at the brewpub. Poured a dark mahogany with a round light tan head. The aroma is chocolate chocolate more chocolate with a hint of sweet chocolate. The flavour is medium bitter / sweet with a rich malt chocolate light alcohol liqourice bitter palate and a long rich alcoholic bitter finish. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. A bitter sweet beer that’s dominated by the chocolate and the alcohol. It’s not sickly sweet though or too alcoholic bitter. I’d say they got it just about right.

Draft at bishops arms. Pours almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is massive chocolate milkshake, with light roast, toffee and fudge. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light bitter. Light to medium bodied with flat carbonation.

Tap at Man in the Moon. Dark brown colour with an off-white head. Very surprisingly the aroma and flavour are both heavy with cacao. There are hints of something else, coffee, dark malt perhaps, but generally there is cacao.

Small beige head. Opaque black body. Roasty cocoa aroma with toffee notes. Sweet vanilla and cocoa taste with perfumy notes. Full-bodied. Mild, powdery mouthfeel. Sweetish vanilla and cocoa aftertaste with perfumy molasses notes. It’s not bad, but too heavy and perfumy. (0.75l bottle shared by KnutAlbert.)
