Colossal Double IPA
Maximus is our Colossal take on a Double IPA. 9% ABV. Full of Simcoe and Cascade hops balanced against tons of rich malted barley—a bed of smooth malted wheat, biscuity Munich malt, and English Crystal. Maximus’ massive dry-hop bill entertains with spice, floral and berry notes … For the hop heads!

355ml bottle. Clear, deep dark orangey golden to amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Intense, resinous and piney hoppy aroma, orange fruitiness is condensed to a liquorice note, caramel malty background with bitter almond touch. Taste is initially fruity hoppy, notes of mandarine, orange, grapefruit, later more bitter, resinous, caramel malty basis with bitter almond note. Very nice colour, slightly too condensed intensity, therefore almost a bit monotonous or at least onesided.

Bottle from Bottle Shop at home. Clear amber pour with thin foamy head. Aroma is big and sweet - tangy and juicy hops, pinapple-y. Taste is similar. Big tropical fruit hops - orange and citrus but mainly pineapple. Piney too. Slightly bitter at the end with lasting acidity. Unusually strong pineapple flavors - really nice. Between a regular IPA and a Double IPA. Would definitely get again.

Clear amber golden colour, white head. Sweet aroma, hops, citrus, biscuit, lots of malts. Light bitter (for an iipa) flavour, honey, quite sweet. Finish honey with hops. Rather light flavoured for an iipa, maybe an older bottle(?)

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a dark amber/copper colored body with a nice two finger white foamy head that quickly dies and leaves some speckled spider web lacing that fully clings.
The smell has a rich considerable amounts of malty goodness with a wonderful allocation of citrus and piney hops embedded within.
The taste was bittersweet all the way through, no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it, this beauty shows a nice complexity of the piney/citrusy goodness wonderfully combined with the malts. I’m not getting any aftertaste whatsoever, but there is a dry finish.
On the palate, it sat about a medium to almost heavy (perhaps) more likely closer to medium, semi-sessionable, carbonation is good for the style and very good to me as there’s a nice sharpness, but still shows a decent smoothness.
Overall, gee, what a great DIPA, wishing I would have had this fresh, I’ll be sure to look for this Summer when it comes out as I would definitely have this one again especially if it held out for this long.
