On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy tan head. Minimal aroma. Smells weakly of roasted malt. Taste is rich roasted caramel malt with hints of dairy and nut. Uneventful finish.

1000ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lastging, minimally lacing, off-white head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of malt lozenge, some pumpernickel, a touch of organic hazelnut spread and burnt dregs at a coffeepot’s bottom. Taste is slightly roasty dark malty, moderate sweetness, hints of malt lozenge, cautious coffee flavour in residual form as described above; some watery passages.

On tap at the brewpub. Sehr dunkel orange braunes Bier mit einer geringen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht karamellig, malzig. Geschmack karamellig, schokoladig, schwach hopfig, ok!

Draught at the brauhaus
Dark mahogany color with creamy head. Light aroma of dark malts and some bread. Smooth mouthfeel, nice aroma of roasted malts, semi-dry, with correct bitterness; a touch o roasted nuts in the end.

On tap at Gasthausbrauerei Alt-Giessen in Gießen. - Yeasty and a bit fruity. Some roasted malt. Finish is just a little bit bitter, with some rather unpleasant hop notes. - Still drinkable, but there are far better Dunkel beers around.

Malziger, süß röstiger Beginn. Etwas schokoladig, passend trocken, geringe Würzigkeit. Der Fokus ist eindeutig auf das Malz gerichtet, was angenehm erscheint. 10/9/10/10//10

From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brwn, yet clear and wit a golden deep amber glare and a lacing off-white head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, light luqourice bote. Sweet, dark malty, roasted and liqourice flavoured. Bitter and roasted malty finish.

(draught at the brewpub) Slightly hazy, dark amber colour with a mid-sized off-white foamy head. Sweet and toasty (cara-)malty aroma with notes of bread crusts and traces of liquorice. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Toasty malty and bready taste with notes of caramel and a tinge of liquorice; moderately sweet and slightly bitter malt-accented finish with caramel and a whiff of cacao. Nice one. 02.VIII.09
