A decadent oatmeal stout. Velvet Merlin offers robust cocoa and espresso aromas with subtle American hop nuances. Rich dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish create the perfect balance in this full-bodied stout. Ideal for sipping in the winter months or at the end of a meal.

Bottle thanks to somebody, I forget but thanks! Pours black with a gray head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma has a nice roasted malt note with a good amount of oat and just a bit of bourbon backing. Flavor starts with roasted malt and a bit of oats that blends nicely with the backing bourbon note. A nice beer.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy tan head that left rapidly. Aroma is a hint of bourbon with lots of chocolate and smooth burnt malt. Near full body. Flavor is chocolate, smooth burnt malt and hints of bourbon/oak. This one could do for breakfast. Very tasty.

Brought by Greg to the beer gathering. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small beige head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was licorice and burnt roasty malts. The flavor was dryish, malty, roasty and woody with notes of licorice, and bitter floral hops. There were undertones of faint coffee and cocoa. The finish was long, dry, roasty and bitter with some light floral hops. Fairly full bodied. Decent.

12oz bottle pours a watery, opaque black with a cloudy, white head. Nose is malty, bready, reminded me of a doppelbock, chocolate. Flavor is sweet, malty, chocolate, bread, grains, light wood, light smoke. Medium bodied. Disappointingly average.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of rich roasted malt, slightly sweet oats, a little bourbon and vanilla - the roasted malt is most pronounced though. Flavour matches accordingly, with the slightly sweet roasted malts and burnt flavours upfront. Not much presence of the bourbon barrel aging, thought there is maybe a subtle oak and vanilla character buried underneath somewhere. Palate is velvety as the name suggests. Very solid oatmeal stout.
