Best before a long time ago, from the sterk, Amsterdam, opening it today for the meal with my wife. A good surprise to finish this year, really smooth, malty, note of toffee, boozy, full body, sweet, subtle bitterness, right touch of whisky, discreet.

Bottle at home. Aroma is liquorice, dark malt, caramel, toffee, mild herbal notes, hint of dried dark fruits, molasses, hoppy notes. Flavour is rather sweet, body is over medium. I’m not a fan of sweet liquorice-heavy beers but this one has a fine body and balance, as I’ve come to expect from the brewer.

So it's smoother than I thought it was going to be.

Keg at Pigs Ear 2017 - Hackney. Pours unclear red-brown with a creamy, tan head. Very sweet, with notes of toffee, ripe fruits. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, sugary malts, dark fruits. Not bad overall.

Roodbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is zoet met iets van karamel, cacao en koffie. Fijn bier.

Labeled at 8.5%. Brown with a golden tinge. A frothy head soon goes thin. Aroma full of caramel, leather and citrus. To the hoppier side for the style, bittersweet in taste with the bitterness winning out up front. Finishes with a mix of toffee sweetness and resin. Medium bodied, mild carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Malt, roast, licorice and toffee in the aroma. Malty sweet caramelly roasty flavor. Full bodied. Dried fruit. Well balanced in spite of the sticky sweetness.

27 February 2019. At Kantien, Ghent. Shared with the lovely Anke! Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of salted caramel, walnut, earth, toast, toffee, chocolate powder, mocha, almond, cake, liqueur, biscuit, green olive, tea leaves. Taste is medium malty sweet, quite nutty, walnut & peanut on a biscuity malty base, whilst salted caramel & ripe/dried fruit notes pop up (banana, pear, raisin); light herbal bitter middle has green tea, toast, mocha, some spices, faint roastedness & an umami olive note. Dryish, herbal & earthy hoppy finish, lingering nuts, toast, chocolate, and warming liqueur, almost amaretto-like alcohol. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, soft carbonation. Classic Scotch, it does what it has to... Though a bit unfair, we had the Hel & Verdoemenis: Hazelnoot shortly after, and this one almost seemed underwhelming compared to it.
