Ein süffiges, würziges, tief dunkles Bier das ausschließlich aus dem Malz kommt, ist charakteristisch für diese Dunkle.
Zwei davon sind dunkle Spezialmalze, die nach altbayrischer Tradition gebraut werden. Diese Mariensteiner Bierspezialität mit ihren warmen, Röstaromen trinkt sich vollmundig und geschmeidig. Der lange Abgang liefert leichte Noten von Kakaobohne und Kaffee. Ein Bier von wunderbarer Balance im Geschmack.

"Mariensteiner Brauhaus Dunkel 1962", Flasche von der Getränketanke, Kochel am See. - Dunkles Kupferrot, klar. - In der Nase feines Münchner Malz, leicht staubig, und gedämpfte hopfenwürzige Herbe. - Antrunk rund münchnermalzig und kaffeebitter, fein karamelsüß, dezent hopfenwürzig mit ganz leiser Orangenbittere. Milder rezent, annähernd vollmundig, leicht trocken. Im Abgang fein malzbitter und hopfenherb. - Schönes, nicht zu süßes und nicht ganz banal gehopftes Dunkles.

500ml bottle. Clear, mahogany colour with ruby shimmer and huge, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, hints of malt lozenge, a touch of rock sugar. Taste is minimally sweet, toasty, dark malty, diluted hints of malt lozenge, a touch of rock sugar, a minimally nutty touch as well, dry hoppy counterpart; dry, toasty finish. Watery texture, rather dry palate, fine, soft, minimally prickly carbonation. Well balanced, controlled sweetness - good.

Bottle picked up from Bayerisches Bierspezialitäten Pararadies Bienenfleiß, München and consumed at home Attenkirchen Wednesday 4th December 2019 whilst making a homemade Thai Green Curry and listening to Steve Lamaqs Evening Session on 6Music. Pours dark brown but seems to be pretty clear. Nutty flavour with a background of mostly caramel, soft, easy drinking and decent, I preferred it when I first tried it, i.e. my enjoyment waned a little, but it was nonetheless a decent beer.

Tap at Corso Leopold. Brown Amber, clear golden shine, offwhite cream. Medium light mellow body. Light roast, rye bread, a hint minerals, good grassy balance, flatbread and herb finish. Somewhat light, but quite quaffable.

(swing top bottle) Clear, brown colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly roasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, iron and dark chocolate, as well as subtle berry-fruity accents. Bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry and mildly roasted malt character with slightly ashy notes, caramel, dark chocolate and a delicately fruity-tart touch towards the finish. Lacks a bit harmony. 27.II.18

Sehr dunkel braune Farbe, mittelgroße beige Schaumkrone. Geruch süß röstmalzig, Karamell, Vanille. Geschmack süß malzig, Karamell, Schokolade, lecker.
