Inspiré par la noirceur des sous-bois ardennais aux portes de l'hiver, ce Porter de 5,5% d'alcool associe l'amertume et le caractère épicé de l'Hallertau Perle aux arômes de café des malts torréfiés.

Enjoyed at Délices & Caprices. What a treat to finally meet Pierre. He is a can’t miss in Brussels. 33cl bottle pours with dark brown body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of roastiness going on from dark roasted malts and coffee and then there’s some black licorice spiciness and a sliver of toffee too. The taste is smooth with soft malt sweetened coffee and dark roasted malts and then a touch of burnt malts and chocolate malts. Very nice. To midway it picks up some spicy black licorice notes. Very nice softly dark roasted brew.

Bouteille 33cl @ Délices & Caprices. BB 04/2016.

Huge greige head over nearly black brown beer. Chocolate- and other coloured malts, felt or Loden, some ashes. Ashes returning in the mouth, stronger even, seriously torrified malts; seems quite attenuated, dry. Not very well-bodied, then, medium to well-carbonated, slick. Quite good!

From tap. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty, liqourice and breadish. Bitter, roasted and liqourice. Dry and roasted into a bitter finish.

Sampled @ ZBF 15. Opaque dark brown to black color with a slight dark red glare coming through when held into the light, small light brown head. Smell and taste malts, earthy, lightly roasty, brown malts, a hint of caramel and a soft malt bitter. Average body and carbonation. Pretty useful.

The darkest Lienne, with a very deep burgundy colour, as good as black, under a thick, frothy, lacing, pale beige head. Aroma very caramelly, in a ’dry’ kind of way, iron but not too disturbing, coffee grounds, raisins, leather, bayleaf and, alas, a faint hint of DMS (cooked cabbage). Dried fruits in the mouth, with only a faint suggestion of raisin sweetness, but not actually becoming sweet anywhere; dryness continues in the middle, with a fairly deep caramelly and nutty maltiness, touch of bitter chocolate, some roasted bitterness but not really coffee-like (unfortunately!), sourish touch and herbal hop bitterishness. Quite enjoyable, doubting a bit between a dry stout and a porter, but like Lienne Brune, it could be better with more body and more ’boldness’ in the roasted department, I think.
