Bottle shared at the Euston Tap during Nick’s final drinkathon, with the man himself, Bruce and Jack. Bottle is well over one year old. Pours a mildly hazy amber with a foamy, white head. Big caramel and toffee nose with some toasty sugar notes. Medium to big sweet flavor, moderately attenuated sugars, lots of caramel and rich bread, also some brown sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Mild warmth in the finish, slight alcohol, lots of dry caramel, toasty bread, toffee. A nice Scotch ale. Not nearly as cloying as expected - in fact, not cloying at all. Has aged nicely.

Pours copper with a large, quickly fading head.Nose shows chocolate, bready malt and nutty notes. Pretty moreish. The nutty notes carry through as flavours, as does the bready malt, but little else is noticeable.Watery body is unfortunate.

Smells like a sugar cookie, or cupcakes, or something sweet and glutenous. A little too sweet, actually; combine this aroma with the ugliness of the beer as it blurbles into the glass, and I find myself a little nervous. Good thing Kilt Lifter tastes good. Flavors of overbaked waffle cone run ahead of a bitter hop finish, one that helps disperse any lingering alcohol heat. This bottle won’t stun you with its complexity or brazen recklessness with the style, but it still makes for a satisfying and somewhat decadent brew. (1/15/09)

botlte from kihoskh clear brown, small smooth light brown head. dry herbal malty grassy aroma. flavor is herbal, malty, grassy, sweet, with a goo dose of alcohol. The hops totally fail to balance the alc. and the malts, and the grassy herbal notes are too strong. I don’t really like this one. Reminds me of a bad european strong ale or european strong lager.

Bottle at a MesandSim rating party. Deep amber, lasting beige head. Really malty on aroma. It’s a malty toffee beer, some tingle on the finish. Some orange fruit flavour.
