Our Imperial Red Ale is brewed with a blend of four malts and three hop varieties that come together to create a deeply complex beer with a reddish-orange hue. The malt brings a caramel-like sweetness and boozy warmth, while two different dry-hop additions bring citrusy bitterness to round off a very big, very balanced beer.

Pours clear ruby red with a lasting off white to light tan head. Toasted caramel malt m, citrus, and hop resin aroma. Flavor is malty and moderately bitter. There’s toasted caramel, citrus, and piney hops. Full bodied. Very good.

Bottle at Winking Lizard. The beer pours a hazy reddish-orange color with a medium thick off-white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit, malt and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of spicy hops, citrus and caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Sampled during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. A pretty basic strong amber, this. Dried caramel, piney hops, lightly toasted bread. Medium bodied, fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish with plenty of bready malts and ripening citrus fruits. OK.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/1/2013. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, floral, grass, slight pine, and floral earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balanced hop and malt notes; and great strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, floral, grass, herbal, light pine, and floral earthiness. Light earthy floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange/lemon zest, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, floral, grass, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity of bright citrus hop and deep malt flavors; with a great hop/malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, slick, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent imperial red ale! All around great complexity and balance of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Tap at Revolution Brewing, Milwaulkee Ave, Chicago. Poured a clear medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is fruity hop malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a hoppy malt liqourice palate and a polo mint edge in the finish. Really!
