Champagne-Style Finish
Its fine bubbles and bright citrus flavor are ready for a celebration.
We brewed this new take on IPA with a bone-dry, champagne-style finish in mind. Late hop additions lend a bright pop of citrus flavor and create balanced bitterness. Brut IPA is as intriguing as it is drinkable.

Pour is a crystal clear very light gold with a large white head, looks like Bud Lite. Aroma is almost nothing. Some light citrus that's about it. Flavor is almost nothing again, a light citrus and that's about it. This was super watery and I'll probably end up drinking it way too fast only because there is nothing here. Poor.

Bottle at home. Nice looking bright clear gold. Nose is floral and green grapes. Tastes of white wine grapes, grassy, floral, hint of citrus. Low bitterness and very dry. Easy drinking and refreshing. Very good spring seasonal in my eyes.

On tap at Pass and Provisions. Pours a pale yellow gold with large frothy white head. The aroma is earth, citrus, and yeast. Thin body, citrus, grass, dry bitter finish, very good.

Bottle, Wine Warehouse. Pours pale gold, clear, small white head. Aroma is lightly citrus (very lightly), green grape, dust. Flavor is dry grasses, paper, hint of citrus, light grape, dust, cardboard. Really boring. Sorry, not jumping on the trend train and saying this is a good beer.

Bottle from Albertsons. Here's Sierra Nevada hopping on yet another crazed, this time the Brut ipas. Pours a very pale golden with a small skin of white head. Aroma is fruity, grapes. Taste brings a little bit of sweetness, and a very sharp pronounced bitterness. Overall, very light in body and palate. This improved over time, as it warmed, and as the palate adjusted to the yeast.

Curious pint from Sierra Nevada, in line with some of their older Spring offerings, what with the subtle malt character, the lemon-tinted yeasty esters, and a dry, floral hop finish. As I've said before, the character of Brut IPAs varies so much from brewery to brewery I have no clue what the style should actually be, but I'm betting this bottle isn't the benchmark. Drinkable, but not particularly memorable.

Bottle from Trader Joe's. Pours a clear straw gold with a quickly dissipating finger of foam. Light lemon, pilsner malt or light roasted malt, floral and herbal aromas that come out as it warms. Light bodied, spritzy carbonation although not as much as other bruts I've had from Ommegang and Odd Side which I thought hit the carbonation and mouthfeel a bit better. A little thin on the palate. More pilsner malt, faint malt flavors with some mild dry bitterness on the finish. Reminds me more of a dry Belgian blonde without the yeast character. Not bad, but a bit thin. Would be good drinking on a hot summer day. --- Beer merged from original tick of Brut IPA on 04 Jan 2019 at 13:31 - Score: 6

12 ounce bottle from Vintage Estate. Slightly hazy gold, large frothy white head, fair retention. Aroma of wood, dandelion, herbal notes, pale malt. Almost tannic. Taste is resin, wood, pine, pale malt, hints of mint. Medium bodied. The most brut of the brut IPAs I've experienced so far.

12 oz bottle from a six pack from Winco. Bottled about two weeks ago. Aroma is grapefruit peel, lemon, orange, a hint of biscuity, earthy malt. Pours mostly clear pale golden with a one finger white head with decent retention. Taste has a moderate pithy bitterness with citrusy, grainy flavors, finishing dry. I've had a handful of these brut IPAs now, and they all taste pretty similar. All of them decent to pretty good. Still waiting for an extraordinary example.

Crowler from the taproom. Pours clear, bright gold with a foamy white head. Citrus aroma - there's a mild hint of lemon. Med body or so. Flavor is laid back citrus - touch of lemon - no Citra bomb here. Pale malt. Finish is a little bready, but this is very dry ale. Moderate hop level. Bitter enough, though not for a hop head! Indeed it is somewhat like a champagne (xpt for the malt), tho not one of the better ones. Good enough for oysters or caviar. I like it.
