Inspired by traditional English brown ales, this delicious ale is a rich mahogany brown in colour with deep red accents. With roasted malt, nut, and toffee notes this enticing malt-forward ale is balanced with a mild hop finish. This award-winning brown ale is a testament to the fact that the classics never go out of style. Cheers!

quite similar to the special pale ale. nice fruit floral hops in the aroma and flavour, but there is a great maltiness added to it. another quality beer from one of my favorite Ontario micros

Notes from April 2010 2.33/5 rDev -35.6% look: 4.5 - smell: 1.5 - taste: 2 - feel: 4 - overall: 2.5 My uncle brought a pack of this stuff & the Arkell Bitter back over the border. Would I have been happier with some suspect prescription drugs? Only time will tell. Poured into a DFH rounded pint glass. An inch of milky, cream-colored froth develops over a filtered, orange hued, dark wood stained body. Really appetizing. Smell is boring. Hard water, aluminum, hay, a touch of menthol-like hops & maybe anise, & some caramelized cereal. Taste is dusty/dry malt, slightly burnt hulls, earthy carob, bland metallic hops, & a slight phenol edge near the finish(a bit like stamp glue) before it goes numb. Carbonation & overall feel is your only relief. Crisp & just barely sharp. Thin body(though it sometimes comes off as chalky), a dry finish, & minimal aftertaste. These six packs are completely boxed, & the winter has been pretty cold, so I don't think the elements effected these much. No best by or bottled on date. The bottles are pretty beat up, so they probably traveled quite a bit before reaching their destination. As far as the beer goes, it's just a semi-tolerable, ho-hum thirst quencher at best. Bland & inoffensive enough to be swallowed & forgotten while concentrating on those Doritos you're hoarding.

Can from the LCBO. Clear dark reddish brown under a one finer off white head. Nose is brown sugar, toast, dark fruit. Light sweet with a lighter bitterness and a bit of nuttiness. Mouth is slick but a little thin wit average carbonation. Decent enough.

Draft - Caramel and dark sugars with a bit of raisin. Dark clear amber with a small beige head. Malty, toffee and a dark sugary finish. Nice and really malty.

Aroma of wet barley and garbage. Has a black water body with small head. Flavour is garbage and coffee- or perhaps more like coffee that’s been found in garbage. Weak finish. This one is unbalanced and needs some work.

(can) clear dark amber with small tan head; aroma of stewed fruit, lightly roasty flavour, not bad but nothing exceptional. It came in a pack of 4 cans of different beers from this brewer - all tasted like the same beer with different amounts of water added... Sort of like Duff, Duff Light, and Duff Dry on the Simpsons....

Reddish brown color, small tan head, aroma not discernible, medium carbonation, caramel-coffee taste, long finish with bitter coffee taste remaining on your palate. Good one.
