Kaiju Punch was our 2017 Newcastle Beer Fest entry. When asked to brew an IPA for Battle of the Beers we, predictably, went a bit mental. Kaiju Punch is a fighty 5.7% IPA brewed with more hops than you shake a stick at. Drowning in Mosaic and Citra hops and backed-up with only the palest malt, wheat & oats, it packs a serious wallop.

Keg at the Black Bulls Head, Openwoodgate. Yellow, hazy with a thin bit of head on top. Good dollop of lacing. Light aroma with some lemony notes, a creamy and almost funky character. Interesting if a bit bland. Sweet and a little bit spicy on the tongue, with bitterness asserting mid-sip leading to a drying finish. Carbonated to high heaven. Pleasant but without enough character to be a really good beer, as it is it's just slightly above average.

330ml can 5.7% from CentrAle, Newcastle station. Yellow gold colour, white foamy head leaving lacing and tropical passionfruit hop aroma. Taste is malt caramel with juicy tropical fruits and citrusy, pine, hop resin bitterness. Light bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Cask at CPK - London. Pours hazy yellow-gold with a foamy, pure white head. Pretty juicy and vibrant aroma, bright tangerine and melon, mango, pine. Light sweet flavour with notes of pulpy orange juice, fresh pine, mellow bitterness, pale bread, more mango. Light to medium bodied with me carbonation; good condition. Fresh and juicy on the finish, with some piney bitterness, mellow pale bready sweetness, continuing tropical fruits. Great stuff.
