After hard days on the threshing machine, this rich, sparkling, medium-dry cider would quench men’s thirst and lift their spirits. “Tis a fine drop,” they’d say “us shall ‘ave the Thrasher again on the morrow.”

500ml bottle from Hunt's Cider Farm, drunk at our lodge at Finlake. Pours a misty bright gold. Nicely fruity aroma, moderately sweet. Continues to taste, lovely medium fruitiness, good settled acidity with a soft blanket of tannin, gentle carbonation. Nicely done.

Bottle from Cooperative Supermarket, Salcombe. Light golden crisp cider with a good apple flavour, slightly dry, with a lightly soured finish. Its strength is not that evident.

Bottle from the Food Shop in Dartington. Appearance - golden amber. Gentle bubbles. Nose - apple and tangy apple skin. A little hay, maybe. Taste - more apple skin and sweet apple this time. Palate - dry and tangy from start to finish. Overall - good.

500ml bottle from Scrattings. Golden colour, fizzy white foam head that rapidly dissipates away and aroma of tangy funky apple. Taste is mellow tangy apple, bittersweet, with some barnyard funk, leathery, woody, oaky and light tannins. Medium bodied, low carbonation, medium-dry tangy tannic finish. Nicely drinkable Devon cider.
