A refreshing dark mild

A dark session beer with a delicate blackcurrant taste and light coffee notes with no harsh bitterness or astringent bite; a tasty refreshing pint!

“Coalface” is a modern take on the Milds that washed coal dust from the throats of miners for generations.

On tap at Foxtons in Berwick on Tweed. Appearance - very dark in fact opaque but not quite black. It has hints of chestnut and even purple in there. Lovely creamy cask head. Nose - Crunchie bar and perhaps going into liquorice. Taste - mire liquorice and honeycomb with chocolate backdrop. Palate medium bodied with a creamy texture that is also crunchy in places. Finish is a nice bitter and sweet combination. Overall - a tasty Mild.

Pigs Ear. Clear deep amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate, light and a little dry. Very light dark malts, whisper of bubblegum, not too sweet. Very light touch of tangy dark fruits. Light dry finish. More unsweet bubblegum in the aftertaste. Okay mild.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2013. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earth, coffee, mild acidity, caramel and a touch of plastic. The taste is soft roast, toast, earth, coffee, mild acidity and cola with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit dull really...
