Piece of Cake is our birthday beer, brewed once a year. The name says it all, an oily, black, dense beer with a high degree of alcohol in which in addition to the 9 types of malt and oats we added vanilla and tonka (google it for more info).
Ingredients: water, malt, oats, vanilla, tonka, hops, yeast.

Bottled 330ml. -thanks Matt, shared with Marko. Pitch black coloured, medium sized brownish head, tonka, light vanilla, chocolate and mild spices in the nose. Roasted malt, light burnt touch, notes of chocolate, vanilla and spices with light warming alcohol in the finish. Liquid cake.

Bottle, thanks Matt H! Pitch black, tan-ochre mild head. Ginormous cake aroma, tonka ruling this entirely. Fantastic cake-like aromatics in the taste, which is quite lean, slightly roasty and bitterish and the finish. The alcohol is not in evidence flavor-wise, but the beer is very warming. Very tasty indeed!

330mL bottle at Le 100 de Beri, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out intense coffee and vanilla, with light roast. Flavour is intense, with heaps of espresso beans upfront, followed by vanilla, and subtler cocoa notes. Low on the roast, but a massive coffee malt body. This is wonderfully balanced and certainly packs a flavour punch. Excellent.

DEC-2019. Batch 3. Draft at Beer O'Clock, Bucharest. Rich inky black, dark mocha head. Smells like a rich creamy chocolate truffle, some heat. The taste is that nice balance of sweet and bitter chocolate, the right amount of clean pungent bitterness (as in chilli chocolate) and carefully tuned alcoholic heat. No green hops, no annoying flavourings, no sticky sugars or aggressive roast/bitterness, just an honest technically perfect "pastry ish" porter. Excellent. 4,2/5.
JAN-2019. Batch 2. Thick inky black, small dark espresso head. The aroma is full of tonka and some cinnamon, dark chocolate syrup, just a hint of alcohol. The taste has that syrupy sweetness too, but thankfully is balanced by a decent amount of (grassy) hops. The flavour is, again, thankfully, easy on spices and roast malts. Inky thick mouthfeel yet easy to drink... or better yet, sip. I would prefer more heat, and the bitterness is a bit too vegetal. Other than that... A very well done, sensibly flavoured bed time sipper. 7-4-8-4-16=3,9.
APR-2018. Batch 1. Opaque black, dark espresso head. Tonka upfront, but not overwhelming, pretty well integrated actually. Not much vanilla, instead you get notes of cinnamon and, yeah, dark cocoa flavoured cake. The taste is only moderately sweet, with all the flavourings, not too roasty, staying off the front line, and a robust spicy bitterness keeping the things serious. Smooth oily mouthfeel, some alcoholic spice. Very nicely done, and thankfully, not over-flavoured. 8-4-8-4-16=4,0
