Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts, dark malts, roasted malts, smoke. Tastes the same: malts, dark and roasted malts and again some smoky influences, hop bitter, malt bitter. Overall it’s too malt-forward and bitter and that smoky hint also is not what I really want to taste in a black IPA. Decent beer, but not great as a Black IPA imo.

341ml bottle from Saveur Biere. Pours black in colour with a light brown head leaving lacing. Aroma of malt, chocolate, roast, hoppy. Taste is roasted malt, rich chocolate & coffee, liquorice, with citrus & pine hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark color, near black, with compact tan head. I don’t appreciate the aggressively burnt character, very ashy, palate wrecker, graceless, but behind that there is a nice robust hopping. Just burnt malt in the final.
I wouldn’t enjoy drinking more than a few ounces.
Excessive.

Très bonne bière qui penche plus vers le Stout que l’IPA selon mes papilles... Un peu moins de grains torréfiés me la feraient probablement plus apprécier (désolé, je ne suis pas un amateur de café). La mousse est irréprochable.

42nd Floor Tasting. Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good fine carbonation. Fluffy dark malts, mellow roast. Light cream. Good piney hops, hop spice. Smooth finish brings a touch of dark chocolate. Smooth and nicely integrated.

Bottle thanks to Kenny at the 42nd floor tasting. It pours opaque black with a thick tan head. The nose is toasty, charred wood, dark chocolate, rocky road, coffee grounds and earthy roast. The taste is bitter, charred, dark chocolate, burnt toast, peppery, grapefruit, very charred and coffee with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Lingering bitter charry finish. Rather solid stuff, especially the aroma.
