During the 1800s Britain famously exported Pale Ale to its colony in the Indian subcontinent. The IPA was so popular that brewers started brewing variations for the domestic market. Contrary to popular belief, it was probably Porter that was actually exported to India in the largest quantities. Our recreation of this style uses Pale, Brown and Black Malt to give a deep mahogany colour and restrained but pleasant roasted flavour. English Fuggles hops were used is large quantities, as would have been the case in the 19th century. Aged in oak casks for 5 months with our mixed culture of yeast and bacteria the beer has developed a unique fruity flavour unlike any modern day Porter. Expect flavours of cherry, earthy bitterness, oak, under ripe plumbs and burnt blackberries.

Rocky light brown head left a froth on an oak coloured still body. Medicinal, red berry & jam aroma. Medium bodied, syrupy over the tongue with a sharp but sticky back. Overly bitter underripe berries, pithy, charcoal, tobacco, herbal & vegetal tastes. Most unusual!

Bottle: Poured a deep brown with red orange edges, head was thin tan left a ring. Aroma has a vinegar fruit. Taste has caramel malts, but that underlying tart fruit. Don't think this one is right, but it's not bad.

Bottle shared with the Kuala Lumpur Tasting Crew. Poured a hazy medium brown with a broken off white head. The aroma is Bretty yeast light roasty. The flavour is moderate sour, with a crisp, fresh, Bretty, light dry vinous oaky, dry hop palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Bottle bought online from Hoptimism. Pours mahogany brown with a lasting cream head. Nose is sour funk, oak, light caramel, some red wine also. Taste is quite complex - earthy, sour, rich dark fruits, oak barrel & brett. Medium body, decent carbonation. Some folk moaned that earlier released bottles were flat as a pancake but this was fine. Another lovely, complex, interesting beer from LEP
