Bottle picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker nr Gent, Belgie and consumed at home Attenkirchen Sunday 19th May 2019. Pours black with a tan head that decided not to stick around. Yep this is interesting, the spirit makes itself known as there is a light boozy edge throughout. The cask ageing adds a little sourness, with a dry finish, the usual chocolate and roasty touches are there but the sour tang is ever present. It's not a usual Barrel aged Impy but I quite like it. Btw Loz thinks it's not worth 3.4

Re-rating of a 2016 bottle (previous 2.4). Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 33B: Port Wine with wine spirit/30A: cocoa nibs/20C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L52-2016 (BBF 12-2038). AROMA: medium vinous alcohol aroma, followed by low wood. faint roastiness. APPEARANCE: very dark brown colour and opaque. no head. TASTE: initial medium-high vinous alcohol with slight Port and wood notes. medium bitterness with a dry and slightly roasty finish. PALATE: medium body with almost no carbonation. alcoholic warmth. OVERALL: an imperial stout fermented with cachaça yeast and matured in Port and vinous spirit cask with (still) too much distilled notes and almost absent base beer. The maturation rendered the flavor even more mono-dimensional. Unbalanced towards spirits.
