Waren die letzten Märzenbiere des späten Winters ausgetrunken, war in den Klöstern Erfindergeist gefragt: Ohne Kühlung konnten dann nur die fruchtig-frischen, obergärigen Biere gebraut werden. So entsteht auch heute noch eine besonders schmackhafte Weissbierspezialität: Die Alpirsbacher Kloster Weisse.

Bottle from Lekkerbier, Sint Nicolaasga. Aroma is malt (in between pale malt and the darker variety), bread, banana, spicy yeast, clove, ripe fruit. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a light bitterness. A hint of wheaty sourness. Body is medium. Pleasant, with some fairly chewy bready malts.

Bottle shared in Watford - cheers to Fergus! Pours unclear deep gold with a creamy, off-white head. Some gummy white grape in the nose, toasted caramel, bread. Medium sweet flavour with some further gummy grape, a little tangerine, toasty bread and grains, vague wheat, nips of tangerine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, more bread, some graham crackers, toasty grains, aged citrus. Interesting stuff. Certainly a bit faded.

Bottle at home. A hazed dull brown coloured pour with a sticky off white head. Aroma is sweet, old socks, apple, musty apple. Flavour is composed of sweet sticky malts, apple, malty, musty, maple syrup. Palate is sickly sweet, lowish carbonation, dusty moderate carbonation. Oxidised.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Cloudy golden orange with an off white head. Aroma of bread, cardboard, dull malt, grain and light yeast notes. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. Above light bodied with soft carbonation. [05-09-2016]

Bready malty aroma with hints of wheat and notes of overripe fruits, clovy spice in the background. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a tame carbonation. Shy wheat character, bready malty base with notes of caramel, restrained fruity notes; rather slim finish, regarding its abv of Märzen strength. Rather disappointing. 23.IV.16

Lahev s patentním zavěrem (Dik!): deep orangey coloured, hazy, some floaties, smaller stable off-white head; sweetish fruity-caramelly nose, almost a bit vinous, wheat dust in the background; moderate sweetish flavour, both low acidity, low bitterness, pretty light bodied; mild sweetish-caramelly finish, accompanied by a certain fruitiness. Just O.K. …
