RADON is a Belgian Nut Brown Mild of 4% ABV, brewed in collaboration with Brouwerij Omer Vander Ghinste from Bellegem and Fuller’s from London in the UK.

It is part of a special six-pack of beers—the Noble Gas Project—created with twelve other breweries to celebrate the third birthday of Siphon Brewing.

Working with Siphon Brewing on the recipe and process beforehand and attending on brewday were Sam Quartier of Omer Vander Ghinste and Henry Kirk from Fuller’s in the UK.

RADON is a dark, low-gravity, malt-focused British session ale; refreshing, subtle and flavourful. The various malts deployed—Golden Promise, Light Crystal, English Brown Malt, Special B, Chocolate Wheat and Oats—equip the beer with a wide range of subtle dark malt expression: think caramel, toffee, toast, nutty, chocolate, coffee, roast and liquorice. The English Ale yeast strain delivers some subtle ester profile, reminiscent of plum and raisin.

Bottle. Pours brown. Aroma and flavor are sweet, malty, roast, caramel, yeast, sugar. Overall: good, if you don't mind the yeastiness.

29/VIII/19 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 30/IV/20 - (2019-1331)

Clear dark brown beer, big fizzy aery beige head, unstable, falls down quickly before dissipating entirely. Aroma: in the bottle it smells fantastic, lots of chocolate, nice roasted malts, nutty, hazelnuts. In the glass I got more of a metallic smell, grains, hay, caramel, cow fodder. After the head's gone even some cardboard, chocolate, caramel, more hazelnuts. MF: lively carbon, light body. Taste: bit sourish, pretty roasted touch, bitter, slightly infected, bit hoppy, coffee grit. Aftertaste: nice roast, very malty, grains, more caramel.

Dark brown almost black, tan dissipating head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, stout, hazelnut, fading into cardboard, caramel, chocopasta. Light sweet malty flavour, dry nutty. Bit thin, but well within style. Nutty finish, malts, cacao, coffee. (from 33cL bottle @ Tim's place. Thanks for sharing!!)

On tap at Fuggles Beer Cafe Tonbridge. Dark brown colour almost black beer. Lasting tan head. Not sure about a mild on leg as I always think it works better on cask with that greater width and depth of mouthfeel. Decent enough chocolate coffee and general brown malt. No real bitterness a little biscuit sweetness. A bit cold. Ok

29 June 2019. At Siphon 3d Birthday Party, Damme. Cheers to Anke, Erwin & Ama Deke! Hazy brown (real, deep brown) with a lasting, thin, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of toast, chestnut, walnut, mocha, milk chocolate, hard caramel, earth, tea leaves. Taste is light malty sweet, restrained chocolate, bread, caramel, yet deeply nutty and somewhat roasted at that, think hot chestnuts, next to a toast & 'coffee with cream' accent. Dry, herbal hoppy finish, lingering toast, nuts & coffee. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. I guess 'Nut Brown' is the correct description here.

Small if reasonably stable yellowish cream head, fed by finely carbonated deep dark brown beer. End of bottle solid yeast. Abundant chocolate/chocolatemalt, oats. Ever so slighlty smokey, hardboard. Dry, sweet & faintly bitterish flavours, coloured malts/melanoidin-rich, dry wood and lots of chocolate. Light roast. Finish has an almost imperceptible acidity. Faint black cardamome. Feels a tad chewy, medium carbonation, quite slick. Generally dry impression despite the sugarload. Not too bad. Heavy on the chocolate, but with the sweetness held in check, quite palatable.
