KRYPTON is a Blood Orange Weissbier of 6% ABV, brewed in collaboration with Brouwerij Contreras of Gavere and White Frontier Brewery from the Swiss Alps.

It is part of a special six-pack of beers—the Noble Gas Project—created with twelve other breweries to celebrate the third birthday of Siphon Brewing.

Working with Siphon Brewing on the recipe and process beforehand and attending on brewday were Frederik De Vrieze of Contreras and Chris Treanor of White Frontier.

KRYPTON is a classic German Weissbier—with its banana and clove fermentation character and refreshing wheat flavours—enhanced with the addition of blood orange juice for a fruity, bitter and refreshing twist.

33cl bottle from Etre Gourmet web shop. F: thin, white, not long lasting. C: gold, hazy. A: nice fruity, orange, banana, bit pineapple, peach, floral, bit spicy. T: medium malty base, bloody orange, pineapple, bit banana, spicy touch, bit herbal, bready, medium carbonation, very nice not for the style but tasty for sure.

Cloudy orange colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have an abundance of orange citrus zest. Light sharpness comes from that. Light and refreshing.

Hefeweizen with blood orange - so much for the Reinheitsgebot - in this adorable series of 'triple' collaborations Siphon has done, now with a very classically Belgian brewery (Contreras) and a Swiss craft brewery (White Frontier), none of which I think has much experience with German Weissbier... Medium thick, mousy and quite dense but still quickly opening, yellowish egg-white, hardly lacing head on a cloudy to even milky, apricot blonde robe with champagne-coloured hue. Interesting aroma of indeed fresh blood orange, white bread, green banana, fresh sage, sourdough, piccalilly, chalk, freshly cut apples, pineapple, soap, clay and something very vaguely sulfuric faraway in the background (DMS) - too faraway to be of any disturbance, luckily. Refreshing onset, very fruity with indeed obvious blood orange, estery hints of halfripe banana, pineapple and green pear, medium fizz with minerally effects, supple bready basis, doughy with a light acidic touch from the citrus lingering over it and maintaining the refreshment; soft herbal notes in the finish, tad sage- and even very vaguely tarragon-like, with a mild bitterness that feels more citric than hoppy; bready-yeasty notes linger on. Refreshing, fruity Weissbier indeed, very modern, not lacking in complexity whilst maintaining its easily drinkable character. Too bad for that vague sulfuric background note - and style-wise, this is quite far removed from your average Hefeweizen, but an interesting beer all the same, like every single entry in this fascinating series.
