Draught, 6.8% at KØ14. Citric vanilla aroma. Clear dark amber colour. Good stable white head. The flavour is citric, but I guess mostly acetic. Good woody note.

Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is cherry, citrus, vinous. The flavour is citrus spice mineral with a vinous spice herb palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. A super beer but not too dissimilar to the base beer. Maybe it needs older barrels or a longer ageing process.

Draught @ Mikkeller & Friends. Rougher brett and hops. Actually tastes more like Orval than the original version. Maybe a bit too alcoholic.

Small perk of being a professor is that book reps will do what they can to get you to adopt their books. Even better when a book is also a beer geek who likes to talk beer in your office and then invite you to Redlight Redlight on the pretense of showing you how to use their new companion site, with free beer thrown in. So after having a few, I didn’t turn my nose up at the offer of one last one, so this was the winner it seemed. Deep amber-red color, smallish head, big fresh fruity nose (dark fruits) and some oaky barrel notes, possibly a little barrel funk but only very minor. Flavor similar, but much dryer than expected. Light fruitiness, very oaky, balanced, sweet-alcohol finish. I didn’t love it but it was nice to have something unique like this, somewhere between a dubbel (in strength), a quad (in terms of big esters), and all somewhat oaky.
