PALM Hop Select is a complex yet balanced top-fermentation connoisseurs’ beer with a reasonable alcohol content. Its specific hop aroma comes from the aromatic Hallertau Mittelfrüh hop variety. The carefully selected PALM yeast gives this beer its banana-like fruitiness, and the special PALM malts provide its subtle touch of caramel. Bottle conditioning ensures fine sparkling and an excellent shelf-life. PALM Hop Select undergoes hopping in three stages. An initial hopping at the start of the boiling process ensures the bitter flavour. The specific hop aroma comes from the Hallertau Mittelfrüh. This aromatic hop variety is added as a second hopping at the end of boiling and as a third hopping during dry hopping (end of fermentation), when Hallertau Mittelfrüh from our own hop field is used.

Bottle, 6%. Weak caramelly aroma, perhaps from the hops. Has a citric hint as if from a sour rag. Clear dark golden colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is citric, the same note as the aroma, reminding me of wet rag again. It tastes all right, but it seems a little funky to me. I do not get much dry hop, but it has more character than your standard Belgian ale.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit, malt and flowers, with notes of caramel, hops and yeast. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with notes of malt and touches of caramel and fruit. Bitter and slightly citric aftertaste. Okay.

33cl bottle at Trollekelder, Gent. Pours clear golden with a white head. Moderate fruity and hoppy aroma with grassy and herbal notes, hints of Belgian yeast. Mild in flavour, not so sweet, but nothing special. Drinkable and forgettable.

(Draught at Engelbewaarder, Amsterdam, 1 March 2015) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with apricots, grassy hops, hay and slightly metallic aromas. Malty, fruity taste with notes of apricots, canned peaches and grassy hops in a finish with a balanced bitterness. Medium body, slightly sweetish. Tasty, but the malt profile is a bit sharp and possibly a touch too sweet. Quite enjoyable.

33 cl bottle from Jan Linders, Eindhoven, on December 12, 2014.BB 07.03.16A bit hazy deep golden color, smallish yellow head. Sweet, hoppy, alcohol scent. Malty, grainy, metallic taste. Bitter, metallic aftertaste. Gives clear metal contammination on the rub/smell test. Lingering dry bitterness. Medium to fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness that is fairly dry and finishes towards gypsum and chalk.

Bottle. An almost clear one, dark golden in color and with a small, dense, off-white head. Rather weak aroma with some grassy, piney hops. Pale malts, fruityness and some piney notes in the flavor, a little bitterness too. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Grassy, bitter finish with some pale malts. Rather boring this one. Lacking complexity and freshness. 141213

Bottle. Pale amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of caramel, earth, talc (!), apples, cherries. Some berries, caramel and apples along with earthy yeast, but dominated by talcum powder and metallic flavours - reminicent of Germolene ointment. Dry and moderately bitter at the end. Best before 7/16, but something must have gone wrong here. Foul.
