Desire coupled with curiosity can drive you to do many foolish things. Fortunately, opening a bottle of our Pandora’s Bock is not one of them. Once it is released, a wealth of flavor and complexity will spill out into the world. With a traditional bock flavor profile and a hint of hoppy goodness, there’s a reason it’s spoken about in mythical terms.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours translucent copper with medium beige head. Some lacing, light body, and caramel malt aroma. Taste is caramel malt, some vegtable, and light bitter hop finish.

Tinny pale malt nose, canned carrots. Clear copper, thin yellow head. Astringent, vegetal, tinny. Flavor is weak malt tainted with canned potatoes and carrots. The flaw isn’t severe, but there isn’t anything else going on otherwise.

Enjoyed on tap at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago, IL prior to watching the band Swervedriver, who I could have sworn was trying to put me to sleep with their slow set that they played. I didn’t take notes on this one, but it looked nice but was way too sweet. Typically bock beers aren’t overtly sweet, so this surprised me a little bit. I finished it, but wouldn’t want to have this one again.

Medium reddish-amber. Low head. Sugary aroma with doughy malt accent. Light, sweet character. Mostly pale malts with a clean finish. OK, doesn’t taste that strong.

12oz bottle. Filtered reddish-brown, thin steady off-white head. Malty, lots of mellow lager tones. Comes off smooth and drinkable, relatively true to style. Maybe a little more hop forward I suppose, but still pretty well balanced. Toasty, some mild fruity tones, but mostly smooth, bready, doughy malt action. I wouldn’t classify it as a Dunkler Bock..more a a straightforward Bock, as the label states.

Lightly sweet, bready aroma with a touch of toast and sugary molasses. Much like the aroma, the flavor is quite boring though I wouldn’t say bad. Sweet with no real distinctive flavor. A bit of chewy biscuit malt on the end. I will say that its abv is well hidden as this one was nearly 3/4 gone before I realized the percent of alcohol. Decent.

Not really impressed here - I don’t hate it or anything, but it is quite boring - clean and moderately sweet, with a bit of caramel and nuttiness, but nothing else is really happening - all the complexity you want in a bock is lacking - another miss from this brewery.

Bottle. Pours with a clearish golden-brown body with a lightly off-white head. Aromas of grass, brown sugar, molasses, maple and butter. Flavor has a sickening amount of butter, diacetyl, butterscotch in it. Grainy. Lively bubbles. Not pleasant.

Crisp deep amber coloured body with a copper and ruby tinted shade along with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of roasted nuts, malt, caramel and a touch of cardboard. Medium-bodied; Light cereal maltiness with a touch of caramel and a lot of funky cardboard, metal and some odd nuts. Aftertaste shows some light sweetness, more nuts and even more stale malt flavours. Overall, a pretty disappointing beer - not a good flavour and not good aftertaste - not really worth trying, even for those lager fans. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Colorado Liquor Mart in Denver, Colorado on 14-February-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 15-April-2010.

bottle - Pours hazy auburn with a very small head. It smells of sour grapes. Uh oh. It tastes of sour grapes and maybe a little malt. It’s quite thin, too. This beer is infected. There is no way they gave it this strong sour fruit flavor on purpose. From the commercial description: "a traditional bock flavor profile". Not even close. Judging by the numerous ratings here that mention obvious sour or tart fruit notes, it’s often infected, so I’m going to go ahead and enter my rating. Drain pour. Beware!
