(Can) Pours almost black with big dense tan head. Lovely aroma of chocolate and toasted grains, reminded me of a chocolate digestive. Medium body with good full carbonation. Good taste but a little lighter than I was expecting. There’s toasted grain and dark chocolate. Very nice.

Pours black with a light tan head.Nose shoes cocoa, roasted malt, bready and toasty malt in abundance, milk chocolate and very faint liquorice.Flavours include more easy-going roasted malt, massive toasty notes and some nutty, rye bread-like characters. Finishes with a reasonable bitterness to wrap things up. Could use just a tad more sweetness to balance that out.

Can sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks troubles. Black, tan foam. Roast, chocolate, coffee, rather dry, bitterish finish, medium-bodied. Good.

Middie on tap at The Grain Store, Newcastle. Black/brown beer with a thin creamy head. Nose is mostly caramel with touch of coffee. Laces well. Texture is smooth with a little effervescence. There's some dark fruit in there but it's mostly coffee. Dry coffee finish. I just don't like the taste of coffee, so unfortunately not a lot of fun for me.

Can, 11C. Black with a small tan head. Roasty aroma with chocolate, licorice, hint of cream. Slightly but tellingly more than light bodied, moderate carbonation. Dryish with bittersweet chocolate, firm roast, glossy licorice straps, then fairly strong bitterness with hints of spices. Very much what i want in a porter.

On tap at Preachers. Pours black with a big tan head. Toast, chocolate, plum, touch of cherry, bit creamy. Medium body. Fine.

On tap at Modus Operandi, pours black with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and dry cocoa powder. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted malt, a little roast and dry cocoa powder. Really well-balanced and easy to drink. Good stuff.

Medium brown. Thin head. Chocolatey aroma with a mellow toasty balance, and this continues on the palate, emphasizing the hop dryness.

On tap at Local Taphouse, St.Kilda: Very rich nose for a porter with chocolate coming through. They’ve nailed the thinner, less filling consistency and mouthfeel. The roasted caramel flavours are superbly balanced. This may well be my favourite Australian porter of recent years.
