A beer that shows you don't have to strip all malt and hop character out of a beer in order to call it a golden ale, Mayne thing may be the beer designed as the entry point in Newstead's core range but it's got plenty going for it. Not least the bright and lively citrusy and tropical hop aromas emitted form its clear golden liquid.
There's a touch of sweet malt in there too, straying into caramel territory, but mainly it's about the Citra and Galaxy hop combo, presented cleanly in a beer in which you'll find more than initially meets the eye.

Christmas gift from Australia! Clear pale gold with an eggshell white head that leaves great lacing behind. The aroma is really nice citrus/lightly tropical bouquet. Light bodied and citrusy pine with a green herbal hoppiness. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Royal Albert, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is restrained, with notes of biscuity malt dominating. Flavour is along the same lines, with biscuity malt and extremely light hopping. Standard golden ale - mild and easy.

Schooner on tap @ Pigs & Pints. Inviting fruit hop nose. Clear golden beer with thin head. Light carbonation. Oily texture, hints of passion fruit and mango in the taste. Finish is juicy grapefruit that lingers. Superb, refreshing and moreish.

Tap at the Jetty Southbank, Brisbane. Pours clear golden. Hints of hops in the aroma, clearly more than I expected from the looks of it. The taste contains everything you would want from a light beer, a bit of hops and bitterness here, a bit of malts and sweetness there. A good summer beer.
