La Chaman est une Pale Ale Impériale de couleur ambrée dominée par le houblon. En bouche, la forte amertume est balancée par la rondeur du malt et la chaleur de l’alcool. La finale est complexe, amère et légèrement résineuse.

Bottle at worldbeertaste’s temporary leaving The Hague tasting. Poured a slightly hazy medium amber with a very thin white head. The aroma is hoppy glue, resin. The flavour is strong bitter with a light fruit resin smooth alcoholic woody palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel. A super flavour packed beer with well controlled alcohol.

Évaluation no. 100 Juin 2011.

Bottle 3/13, 12C. Almost clear amber with a white head. Aroma has wintery oranges, mandarins, earthy mango, wood, dough, noticeable alcohol. Lowish carbonation, very soft in the mouth.Sticky, but short of syrupy. Sweet and doughy with lots of mellow citrus flavours, some peach and pine. Not all that bitter and it dries out slowly, lifting the sweetness away gradually. Citrus and floral notes linger, some mild spices too. Strange (baffling, really, reading the blurb, but I guess this is old) - reminds me a little of De Dolle Stille Nacht, but of Roguelike IIPAs not at all. Which is quite OK by me.

From a 341ml bottle on 20/12/2013. Pours a slightly cloudy very dark golden with a tiny head. Has a quite unusual aroma dominated by an array of fruits, particularly mandarin, tangerine and mango, with some toffee and molasses. Flavour wise, there’s a background of toffee, with some marzipan and lots of sweet fruit (orange, mandarin, peach, mango). The bitterness is firm but modest by DIPA standards. The palate is syrupy and the carbonation modest. Very easy drinking for 9%. The blurb suggests this is an attempt at a US west coast style imperial, but it comes across as something quite singular and unusual, which is a positive. Not what I was expecting but still very nice indeed. Just don’t expect a real hop bomb.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a hazy orange with small beige head that clings to the glass. Nose is oranges, honey, grass and cognac with a metallic tang to it. Taste is sweet mandarin orange and an alcohol edge with some metallic bitterness in the long finish. Medium creamy body with medium soft carbonation. Quite a lot going on here, but I find the metallic taste a bit distracting.

Bottle from La Mise en Bière, Lausanne
Beautiful hazy amber color with medium sized head. Nice note of malt and caramel, suggesting sweetness, a hint of cereals, and mild but quality hops. Good malt flavor, with a good body structure but a lean and drinkable mouthfeel; light toffee and caramel complete the profile; bold bitterness level, yet balanced by the moderate sweetness, carrying some fruits and resins from the hops.
Well balanced, easy to drink at this magnitude, very good.
